A unidirectional geotextile fabric for use in reinforcement of earthen retaining walls, embankments, slopes and related structures. The fabric is an open grid of high modulus of elasticity strands extending in the weft direction and strands of comparatively lower modulus of elasticity material extending in the warp direction. The fabric is preferably coated with a curable resinous material of sufficient thickness to protect the glass strands from breaking as the fabric is rolled onto cores and unrolled at the job site. When laying the fabric, a roll of the fabric is placed at one end of the face of the earthen structure being constructed and simply unrolled in a direction generally parallel to the structure's face. Because the high modulus strands of the fabric are the weft strands they extend and inhibit soil movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to the face of the structure.

Geotextile fabric

A geotextile fabric constructed as a bi-axially oriented, open grid of high modulus of elasticity strands impregnated with resinous material which is flexible when cured. The fabric may be stored and installed in roll or sheet form and provides high-strength, low-strain reinforcement of earthen structures which is resistant to abrasion, water and chemical attack from soil.

This invention provides reinforced, water-resistant membranes, and methods of manufacturing and installing such membranes. These membranes include a mastic layer having first and second major surfaces and a fiber-containing reinforcing layer disposed within the mastic layer for improving the mechanical strength of the membrane. The membrane can be bonded to an underlying substrate by the application of heat or pressure to form an adherent bond. The reinforced membrane of this invention can have a tensile strength of at least about 300 psi or more.

Water-resistant mastic membrane

This invention provides reinforced, water-resistant structures, and methods of manufacturing and installing such structures. These structures include bituminous mastic material having first and second major surfaces and semi-rigid, open mesh material disposed within the mastic material. The structure may be prefabricated or assembled in situ and can be bonded to an underlying substrate by the application of heat or pressure to form an adherent bond. The reinforced structure has a tensile strength of at least about 300 psi or more.

Conduit liners and methods for their construction and use are provided. The liners include a first flexible layer mechanically bonded to at least one glass-containing layer and folded to form a tubular laminate. The laminate can be penetrable by resinous liquid capable of setting the form of substantially continuous matrix within the laminate following the expansion of the laminate within a conduit. In preferred versions of the liner, multiple glass layers are provided on the inner and outer diameter of the construction with a polyester core so as to meet minimum thickness requirements for vibration resistance under American in situ pipe vibration resistance codes.

Pressure-expandable conduit liner

An open grid fabric for reinforcing wall systems and a method of making same. First and second sets of substantially parallel, selected rovings are combined using certain knits, leno weaves, or adhesive methods. The rovings are direct-sized with at least a silane sizing and preferably have a linear density between 100 and 2000 grams per thousand meters and are arranged at an average of 3 to 10 ends per inch. A polymeric coating is applied to the fabric at a level of 10 to 150 parts dry weight of resin to 100 parts by weight of the fabric while assuring that the open grid remains open. A method for reinforcing a wall system and a wall segment product utilizing the novel open grid fabric of the present invention are also disclosed.

A process for reinforcing paving in which a second layer of paving is placed on top of a first layer. The process includes selecting a semi-rigid, open grid reinforcement of multi-filament reinforcing strands being fixed at cross-over points, the grid being in the form of a roll, a resin being applied to the strands of the grid and an activatable adhesive being applied on the resin to one side of the grid, continuously unrolling the grid, adhesive side down, essentially directly, evenly and flatly onto the first layer of paving, while maintaining the respective strands of the grid in substantially parallel alignment, activating the adhesive by applying one of heat and pressure to adhere the grid to the first paving layer and substantially eliminate bubbles, raised portions or sideways distortion of the strands of the grid during application of the second layer and applying the second layer of paving on top of the grid and the first layer. Openings in the grid provide for complete and substantially direct contact between the first and second paving layers.

Process for reinforcing paving

A reinforcement for asphaltic pavings comprises a prefabricated resin impregnated, adhesive coated grid of continuous glass fibers. The grid is laid on top of an underlying paving and adhered to it. An asphaltic paving layer is then applied on top of the grid.

Disclosed is a process for making a reinforcement for asphaltic paving. The process includes selecting an open grid including two sets of parallel strands of continuous filament fibers, the grid having openings between adjacent strands and the two sets of strands being substantially perpendicular to each other, impregnating the strands of the grid with a resin and applying to one side of the resin-impregnated grid a coating of stable, activatable adhesive without closing the openings between the strands, the adhesive being compatible with asphaltic paving.
