Single use or disposable cutting blocks and methods for utilizing same are disclosed. The blocks are preferably constructed of polymer and/or other suitable low cost and light weight materials. The blocks may be adapted for use with low friction cutting instruments, as well as other such cutting instruments. Several differently sized and configured blocks may be utilized to perform a single surgical procedure. In addition, kits housing one or more such blocks, with or without other instruments are possible.

Single use resection guide

An apparatus for guiding a surgical instrument for shaping the end of a bone includes an alignment plate which has a contact surface and is mounted with the contact surface in a plane substantially perpendicular to the physical axis of the bone and in contact with the bone. A cutting guide is mounted to the alignment plate for rotation about an axis which is substantially parallel to the mechanical axis. The cutting guide includes an instrument-receiver which maintains the surgical instrument in a cutting plane which is substantially parallel to the contact plane and at a predetermined distance from it.

Apparatus and method for guiding a surgical instrument for shaping the end of a bone

A universal alignment guide for universally positioning an instrument with respect to a bone to facilitate resecting the bone along desired orientations. The alignment guide comprises a spheroidal base and a collar coupled to the base in a manner to allow universal motion of the collar with respect to the base. The base of the alignment guide is attached to a bone anchor implanted in a bone, and the collar is attached to an instrument, such as a resection guide. With respect to a distal femur, the alignment guide facilitates simultaneous positioning and locking of the resection guide in flexion/extension, varus/valgus, internal/external rotation, and proximal/distal orientations.
