The disclosure provides a flexible electrophotographic imaging member comprising a single novel polymer binder in the formulation of the imaging layers. In particular, the present embodiments provide multi-layered electrophotographic imaging members prepared by using the same polymer binder in the two contiguous imaging formation layers to improve mechanical and photoelectrical performance. The embodiments also include a process for making and using the imaging member.

Polymer for charge generation layer and charge transport layer formulation

An electrophotographic imaging member which has improved imaging layer(s) formulated to comprise a charge transport compound and a polymer blended binder to render photoelectrical stability, tune-ability, and surface contact friction reduction for providing service life extension. The polymer blended binder used in the imaging layer(s) is a binary polymer blend consisting of: (1) an A-B diblock copolymer and a bisphenol polycarbonate and (2) an A-B diblock copolymer and a bisphenol polycarbonate plus a slippery nano POSS particle dispersion in its material matrix.

Imaging members having electrically and mechanically tuned imaging layers

The disclosure provides a flexible electrophotographic imaging member having an optically clear, cross-linked anticurl back coating of melamine formaldehyde to effect complete and absolute imaging member flatness. In particular embodiments, the anticurl back coating further includes an organic or inorganic particle dispersion.

Imaging members having a cross-linked anticurl back coating

The presently disclosed embodiments are directed to flexible imaging members used in electrophotographic imaging apparatuses. More particularly, the embodiments pertain to electrophotographic imaging members which have imaging layer(s) formulated to comprise of a novel polymer blended binder comprising a bisphenol type polycarbonate and an organic acid-containing copolyester doped into the polycarbonate which provides improved properties and performance to the resulting imaging member. The formulated imaging layer(s) may further include a plasticizer.

Photoelectrical stable imaging members

A photoconductor that includes, for example, a substrate, an optional ground plane layer, an undercoat layer thereover, wherein the undercoat layer contains an aminosilane and an epoxysilane, a photogenerating layer, and at least one charge transport layer.

Epoxysilane hole blocking layer photoconductors

A photoconductor that includes, for example, a substrate, an optional ground plane layer, an undercoat layer thereover wherein the undercoat layer contains an aminosilane and a melamine polymer, a photogenerating layer, and at least one charge transport layer.

Melamine polymer hole blocking layer photoconductors

A web cleaning system including a stationary frame and a rotatable frame being rotatable about an axis while supported by the stationary frame. The rotatable frame supporting first and second contact cleaning rolls that are rotatable about axes and are spaced from and parallel to each other and the axis of the rotatable frame. A web transport device is disposed to fed a web along a predetermined path between the first and second contact cleaning rolls. Major surfaces of the web being parallel to the axes of the cleaning rolls when fed therebetween.

Flexible web cleaning system

A coating system is disclosed comprising apparatus for coating webs comprising a rigid, elongated trough, a cylindrical applicator mounted for rotation about its axis within the trough, the trough having an arcuate upstream liquid retaining surface and an arcuate downstream liquid retaining surface closely spaced from the lower surface of the cylindrical applicator to define an arcuate coating zone which progressively narrows in the downstream direction, a manifold between the upstream liquid retaining surface and the downstream liquid retaining surface, the manifold extending substantially parallel to the axis of the cylindrical applicator, the arcuate downstream liquid retaining surface and the arcuate upstream liquid retaining surface extending from the manifold upwardly a sufficient distance along the periphery of the cylindrical applicator to retain most of any liquid in the coating zone, a wall at each end of the trough to retain the liquid in the coating zone, each of the walls being closely spaced from the adjacent end of the cylindrical applicator, and means for continuously introducing liquid into the manifold. A process for using this type of apparatus for coating webs is also disclosed.

Apparatus and process for coating webs using a cylindrical applicator

A process is disclosed for fabricating an extrusion die including providing hard brass stock, machining the stock to form a thick rigid machined die end dam having a sharp corner, annealing the machined die end dam, providing a die body having at least one open end and an extrusion exit slot, and securing the machined end dam to the open end of the die to form an extrusion die assembly, the sharp corner being adjacent one end of the exit slot. This die assembly is employed to form a coating on a surface of a substrate by establishing relative motion between the surface of the substrate and the extrusion die assembly and extruding a ribbon-like stream of coating composition from the die through the extrusion exit slot onto the surface of the substrate to form a coating layer.

Apparatus for the continuous coating of charge transport solutions onto a substrate to form an electrophotographic imaging member, including a pump to a flow of a first highly doped charge transport solution and a pump to a flow of a second undoped or lowly doped charge transport solution at predetermined rates to a common junction at which the flows intermix into a common flow upon contacting each other; piping connecting the pumping means to the common junction; and mixing device associated with the junction for continuously mixing the common flow during its movement through the mixing device, the mixing device having a short spiral flow path of less than about 200 cm for the solutions sufficient to substantially complete mix the common flow during its movement through the mixing means.

Fabrication of electrophotographic imaging members

Processes and apparatus for fabricating an electrophotographic imaging member in which a web coated with a charge generation layer is coated with a charge transport layer comprising a dopant, the improvement comprising detecting the change in dopant concentration required, determining the amount of highly doped charge transport composition and amount of undoped or lowly doped charge transport composition required to achieve the change in dopant concentration, feeding the determined amounts of highly doped charge transport composition and undoped or lowly doped charge transport composition into a mixing zone, rapidly mixing the amounts of highly doped charge transport composition and undoped or lowly doped charge transport composition to form a uniformly doped charge transport composition, and applying the uniformly doped charge transport composition to the charge generation layer.
