The systems and methods presented herein include a sidewall coring tool assembly that includes a coring shaft having an internal cavity and configured to be coupled to a coring motor shaft of a coring motor at a first axial end of the coring shaft. The coring shaft includes a plurality of scoops disposed circumferentially on a first external surface of the coring shaft. Each scoop of the plurality of scoops forms a conduit from an exterior of the coring shaft to an interior of the coring shaft. The sidewall coring tool assembly also includes a coring bit coupled to the coring shaft at a second axial end of the coring shaft. The sidewall coring tool assembly further includes a static sleeve coupled to the coring motor and disposed radially within the internal cavity of the coring shaft.

Systems and methods presented herein include sidewall coring tools used to return core samples of rock from a sidewall of a wellbore as part of a data collection exercise for exploration and production of hydrocarbons. In particular, the systems and methods presented herein perform sidewall coring of a subterranean formation using a combination of rotary and percussive coring. More specifically, the systems and methods presented herein rotate a coring cylinder of a sidewall coring tool back and forth less than a full rotation while pushing the coring cylinder of the sidewall coring tool against a bore wall of a wellbore, and push the coring cylinder of the sidewall coring tool into the subterranean formation to enable extraction of a core sample of the subterranean formation.

Systems and methods for recovering and protecting sidewall core samples in unconsolidated formations

A service tool that may be inserted into a tubular, the service tool includes an anchoring system. The anchoring system includes a body having a first end, a second end, and an opening extending along a portion of the body between the first end and the second end and a gripping assembly housed within and coupled to the body. The gripping assembly may anchor at least a portion of the service tool to the tubular, and the gripping assembly includes a plurality of anchor arms disposed within the opening and that may move relative to the body. The anchoring system also includes an actuator disposed within a central bore of the body and coupled to the gripping assembly. The actuator may apply a first axial input force in a first direction and a second axial input force in a second direction opposite the first direction to the gripping assembly, At least a portion of the gripping assembly translocates relative to the body in the first direction in response to the first axial input force to position the plurality of anchor arms in a radially expanded anchoring configuration, and the portion of the gripping assembly translocates relative to the body in the second direction in response to the second axial input force to position the plurality of anchor arms in a radially contracted configuration.

Systems and methods for manipulating wellbore completion products

A downhole tool string for conveying within a wellbore, including an engagement device for engaging a downhole feature located within the wellbore, a first actuator for applying a substantially non-vibrating force to the engagement device while the engagement device is engaged with the downhole feature, and a second actuator for applying a vibrating force to the engagement device while the engagement device is engaged with the downhole feature.

Apparatus and methods for well intervention

Methods and systems for evaluating the subterranean formation of a wellbore are provided. In one embodiment, a geographical orientation of a downhole tool relative to Earth may be determined. The downhole tool may include a coring tool positioned to extract a core sample from a formation of the Earth. The orientation of the core sample with respect to the downhole tool also may be determined. Further, based on the geographical orientation of the downhole tool and the orientation of the coring sample, a geographical orientation of the core sample with respect to the Earth may be determined.

Core orientation systems and methods

An optical fluid analyzer tool may have an evaluation flowline which receives a flow of fluid from a geotechnical formation and may have a cleanup flowline which receives another flow of fluid from the geotechnical formation. A flow routing system may be connected to the evaluation flowline and may be connected to the cleanup flowline. The flow routing system may establish isolated flow or commingled flow for the evaluation flowline and may establish isolated flow or commingled flow for the cleanup flowline. A sample chamber may be connected to the evaluation flowline and may be connected to the cleanup flowline. A first pump module may draw the fluid from the geotechnical formation, and an optical fluid analyzer connected to the cleanup flowline and the evaluation flowline may analyze the fluid.

Methods comprising conveying a downhole tool within a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, wherein the downhole tool comprises a first pump and a second pump, and wherein at least one operational capability of the first and second pumps is substantially different. A fracture is initiated in the subterranean formation by pumping fluid into the formation using the first pump. The fracture is propagated in the subterranean formation by pumping fluid into the formation using the second pump.

An apparatus comprising first and second fluid intakes, a pump, and a sample chamber, may be positioned in a borehole penetrating a subterranean formation. A method of use thereof may comprise drawing fluid from the subterranean formation and into the first and second fluid intakes using the pump, discharging into the borehole at least a portion of the fluid drawn into the second fluid intake, and selectively diverting at least a portion of the fluid drawn into the first fluid intake to the sample chamber.

A downhole coring tool conveyable within a borehole extending into a subterranean formation, wherein the downhole coring tool comprises a housing, a hollow coring bit extendable from the housing, a first motor operable to rotate the coring bit, and a second motor operable to extend the coring bit into the subterranean formation through a sidewall of the borehole in a direction not substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the borehole proximate the downhole coring tool. A static sleeve disposed in but rotationally independent of the coring bit receives a portion of a core sample of the formation resulting from extension of the coring bit into the formation. The static sleeve comprises a protrusion extending radially inward toward the core sample sufficiently to mark the core sample.

Downhole coring tools and methods of coring

Downhole tool fluid flow control apparatus including a first fluid valve between a first portion of a first flowline and a second portion of a second flowline. The first and second flowlines are adjacent each other. A second fluid valve is between a second portion of the first flowline and a first portion of the second flowline. The first and second fluid valves are controllable to cause fluid flow between the first portion of the first flowline and the second portion of the second flowline or between the first portion of the second flowline and the second portion of the first flowline.

Fluid control modules for use with downhole tools

Modular pumpouts and flowline architecture are described. An example apparatus includes a downhole tool to sample fluid from a subterranean formation, and a plurality of fluidly coupled pump modules disposed on the downhole tool. Each of the pump modules includes: a pump having a pump inlet and a pump outlet, where the pump inlet is coupled to a first flowline; a first valve assembly having first, second and third ports, wherein the first port is coupled to the first flowline, the second port is coupled to the pump outlet, and the third port is coupled to the first flowline; and a second flowline not fluidly coupled to the first valve assembly or the pump.

Modular pumpouts and flowline architecture

A method, according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure, for operating a positive displacement pump of a downhole tool comprises supplying a hydraulic pressure to the pump to actuate a two-stroke piston to displace fluid at least partially through the downhole tool; moving the piston in a first stroke direction; and reversing the direction of the piston upon completion of the first stroke of the piston. Completion of a stroke may comprise a head of the piston substantially abutting an end wall of a chamber of the pump.

Downhole piston pump and method of operation

An apparatus and a method to seal and prevent leakage within a downhole tool are disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a first body portion having a first fluid flow path formed therethrough and a second body portion having a second fluid flow path formed therethrough. The second body portion is movable between a first position and a second position with respect to the first body portion. The apparatus further includes a stopper connected to the second body portion and disposed within the first body portion. When the second body portion is in the first position, the stopper sealingly engages the first fluid flow path, and when the second body portion is in the second position, the stopper sealingly disengages from the first fluid flow path.

Sealing apparatus and method for a downhole tool

A pumping system and method to be used within a downhole tool is disclosed herein. The pumping system includes a displacement unit having a cavity formed therein, in which the cavity is configured to receive a fluid therein. A hydraulic driving device and a mechanical driving device are then both included within the system such that both the hydraulic driving device and the mechanical driving device are configured to drive a piston of the displacement unit to receive the fluid within the cavity.
