A cable includes insulated conductors arranged in a spaced apart generally coplanar configuration. A jacket encapsulates the insulated conductors. The jacket has a generally rounded rectangular cross-section, at least one spline along a minor edge of the jacket, and at least one channel along a major edge. An armor layer is applied about the jacket.

An electric submersible pumping system cable is provided with a plurality of conductors. The electric submersible pumping system cable includes at least one central strength member which may be in the form of a central strength member bundle. The plurality of conductors may be in the form of a plurality of individually insulated conductors arranged about the central strength member. The electric submersible pumping system cable also may include a jacket layer disposed over the insulated conductors.

A technique facilitates construction and operation of a power cable which may be used to supply power to an electric submersible pumping system downhole into a wellbore. The power cable comprises at least one electrical conductor. Each electrical conductor is insulated with an insulation layer and protected from deleterious fluids by a fluid barrier layer. Further protection is provided by a protective layer disposed around the fluid barrier layer. The protective layer is foamed to provide a cushion layer and to further protect components of the power cable. An armor layer may be disposed around the protective layer.

A technique facilitates construction of a sealed electrical connector, e.g. sealed pothead assembly. Depending on the application, the electrical connector may be used to connect a power cable and a powered component such as an electric submersible pumping system. The electrical connector comprises at least one connector component and at least one electrical component. An injection molding process is used to construct an injection molded feature sealed to a corresponding component, e.g. to the at least one electrical component. The injection molded feature is readily formed and located between the at least one electrical component and the at least one connector component to form a simple and reliable seal which prevents unwanted passage of fluids.

An electrical power cable for high temperature environments comprises two or more sheathed conductors; each sheathed conductor comprising an electrical conductor, an electrical insulator surrounding the electrical conductor, and a sheath surrounding the electrical insulator; and a bonding material interconnecting the sheaths of the two or more sheathed conductors positioned adjacent to one another to form a cable.

Power cable for high temperature environments

A technique facilitates the provision of electrical power in harsh environments, such as subterranean environments. The technique employs a power cable having at least one conductor and a polyimide insulation layer disposed about the conductor. A fluoropolymer tape layer is disposed about the polyimide insulation layer. The fluoropolymer tape layer is processed into a uniform, bonded layer. Additional cable layers also may be employed to help provide protection in the harsh environment.

A power cable for artificial lift equipment can include one or more conductor assemblies, each including a copper conductor, a conductor shield with resistivity less than about 5000 ohm-m surrounding the conductor, insulation, an insulation shield having a resistivity less than about 5000 ohm-m surrounding the insulation, a metallic shield surrounding the insulation shield, and a polymer barrier surrounding the metallic shield. Such a cable may include a jacket molded about the one or more conductor assemblies and optionally armor surrounding the jacket. Various other apparatuses, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

Representative implementations of devices and techniques provide a tape adhesion test system. The test system applies a pulling force to an outer layer of tape adhered to an inner layer of tape through an adhesive bond, while the inner layer of tape is secured to a portion of the test system. The pulling force is measured when the adhesive bond between the outer layer of tape and the inner layer of tape breaks.

An adhesive composition includes 100 parts by weight of a polyolefin polymer derived from an olefin monomer copolymerized with at least one co-monomer that is different form the olefin monomer; 1&#x2dc;100 parts by weight of an adhesion promoting agent comprising a polybutadiene polymer, which has a molecular weight of 1,000&#x2dc;10,000 and has an anhydride group grafted thereon; 0.1&#x2dc;5 parts by weight of an antioxidant; and 0.5&#x2dc;15 parts by weight of a curative agent. An adhesive composition includes 100 parts by weight of a polyolefin polymer derived from an olefin monomer copolymerized with at least one co-monomer that is different form the olefin monomer, where in the polyolefin polymer comprises an anhydride group grafted thereon; 0.1&#x2dc;5 parts by weight of an antioxidant; and 0.5&#x2dc;15 parts by weight of a curative agent.

An electric power cable for high temperature environments includes an electric conductor; an electrical insulator disposed on the electric conductor to form an insulated conductor, the electrical insulator suited for operation in a high temperature environment; and a protective sheath disposed over the insulated conductor to form a sheathed conductor.
