A system and method include providing product location information to a user; prompting a user to provide check digits; receiving a subset of digits from a set of digits associated with a product that are used for a purpose different than for check digits; and comparing the subset of digits to product check digits to confirm the user has located the product.

Apparatus and method for propagating data between multiple terminal devices includes determining the functional operability of a plurality of devices to assess which devices are properly configured. If a device is properly configured, operating the device in a transmit-mode to transmit functional operability data. The method may comprise storing at least one care plan in a voice assistant, the care plan defining a plurality of tasks to be performed, capturing speech input from the user, determining, from the speech input, a selected interaction with a care plan, and in response to the selected interaction, providing a speech dialog with the user reflective of the care plan. Alternatively, the method may comprise capturing speech input from a user, determining from the speech input, a first weight associated with a resident, associating the first weight with a care plan in turn associated with the resident, comparing the first weight to a second weight associated with the resident and the care plan, and providing a speech dialog regarding reweighting the resident based on the comparison.

Voice assistant system

A communication system includes a voice-directed portable terminal with a voice user interface that is configured for being able to communicate with a computer system. The communication system includes a peripheral device having a cord coupled with the portable terminal and a connector adapted to disconnect from the portable terminal when a sufficient force is applied to the cord. This disengages the peripheral device from the portable terminal. The ability of the cord to break-away from the portable terminal prevents damage not only to the connector, but also to the cord, peripheral, and terminal.

Voice-directed portable terminals for wireless communication systems

A wearable, mobile and/or portable terminal for use in an inventory management system. The terminal includes a terminal housing, a battery pack removably receivable within an external battery-receiving cavity of the terminal housing, and a battery latching mechanism that secures the battery pack in the battery-receiving cavity in a latched condition. The battery pack has an unlatched condition in which the battery latch mechanism is disengaged from the battery pack. A camming surface of the battery latching mechanism lifts the unlatched battery pack from the battery-receiving cavity to promote its removal from the terminal housing. The terminal housing is sealed relative to the environment surrounding the wearable terminal battery pack and yet permits electrical coupling between the battery pack and the terminal in the latched condition.

An electrical connector has a plug portion and a terminal portion. The plug portion is couplable to the terminal portion to provide an electrical connection between a device and a peripheral item which is securely coupled to the device during normal operation of the device. Advantageously, the plug portion will break-away from the terminal portion when a force applied to the plug portion reaches a specified magnitude to thereby prevent damage to the connector and to prevent hindering operation of the device.
