A deployable shroud provides an aerodynamically smooth surface to minimize the drag otherwise experienced by blunt nose projectiles. The shroud comprises multiple petals mounted at the nose of the projectile that are released at a set time during flight. The deployment mechanism assembly of the shroud provides deployment of the petals without the generation of shock waves into the projectile and comprises a fusible link powered by a thermal source. The shroud assembly is self-powered and does not require energy input from the projectile.

A new fuze that reduces projectile miss-distance to a target, by correcting for discrepancies in anticipated round velocities through its flight. As a result, the fuze-equipped projectile is nominally aimed at a target and maintains improved accuracy relative to a conventional round. The fuze adjusts for the discrepancies in velocity by using an internal electric motor to mechanically actuate a drag-altering surface on the fuze body. In order to adjust for errors in the anticipated velocity, the fuze compares its preprogrammed velocity to its actual velocity at a given point in time during flight. An anticipated velocity table versus time in flight is constantly referenced so that appropriate adjustments in velocity can be made.

Course self-correcting projectile

A ground surface reconnaissance projectile includes a tube-launched 60 mm inert mortar round, which remotely relays reconnaissance and surveillance data back to an operator, after it has landed and uprighted itself. The types of collected data include for example, visual imagery of the target area in 360 degrees, acoustic target tracking and voice recognition, infra-red motion detection, and magnetic field disturbance sensing.

A round for launching from a gun may include a cartridge case and a projectile body adjacent the cartridge case. A pusher may be disposed in the cartridge case and may be operable to push the projectile body upon firing the round. An imaging sensor may be disposed at least partially in the projectile body. The imaging sensor may include a sensor base and a sensor lens. A first kinetic energy absorber may be disposed around the sensor base. A second kinetic energy absorber may be disposed around the sensor lens. After the round is fired and the pusher exits the gun, the pusher may separate from the projectile body and the second kinetic energy absorber may separate from the imaging sensor.

A computer implemented method, program and system utilizing a number of field-deployed sensors to accurately detect and classify objects/events (targets) of interest within a sensor field including the detection/classification of human beings travelling on-foot or with vehicles and their direction(s) of travel. In particular, the method, computer program and system are operable to determine whether a detected target is an animal, human or vehicle via analysis of received acoustic and sensor data. The analyses performed include comparison/correlation of the sensor data to known seismic cyclostationary signatures, acoustic and seismic characteristics of human footsteps and travel tendencies, and acoustic and seismic characteristics of non-human (animal) footsteps and travel tendencies.

Computer implemented sensor data analysis

A dynamic barrier system including a number of sensors that monitor a barrier area to determine specific types of objects approaching, within, or exiting the barrier area. Depending upon the type of object(s), the dynamic barrier system initiates an appropriate action, both lethal and non-lethal. The barrier system may advantageously deactivate after its intended period of operation eliminating difficult and/or dangerous removal.
