A copper-encased flat electrolytic capacitor is produced by sealing the capacitor unit in a heat-sealable polymer-copper laminate. The polymer side of the laminate is adjacent the capacitor section, and the copper side forms the exterior of the sealed unit. Leads may be attached to opposite surfaces of the capacitor, or electrical connection may be made prior to sealing, e.g., to leg-like extensions of the laminate that, after sealing, serve as the leads.

A flat electrolytic capacitor section is provided with a vapor barrier by sealing the section in an insulating, heat-sealable polyester, polyolefin, perflouroethylene, or cellophane film.

A low ESR tantalum foil electrolytic capacitor uses a 30-40 wt % sulfuric acid electrolyte and a porous, synthetic spacer material.

Wound foil electrolytic capacitor sections are anodized after winding. After removal of the formation electrolyte, the sections are rinsed, dried, and impregnated with working electrolyte. The sections are assembled by usual means into capacitors.
