A method for blow molding bottles having a hole formed in a molded interior recess extending from a top face of a bottle neck includes the steps of: (i) providing a mold having a neck forming cavity with an end flange surface therein; (ii) disposing a parison of molten material within the mold; (iii) introducing pressurized fluid into the parison to expand it against the mold walls, thereby forming a final shape of the bottle; (iv) forming the interior recess in the bottle by advancing a recess forming rod through a hole in the end flange surface and into the neck forming cavity; and (v) creating a dispensing hole in the interior recess by advancing a punch through a hole in an end face of the recess forming rod.

Method and apparatus for blow molding a bottle with a punched hole in a molded neck recess

An apparatus for blow molding bottles having a hole formed in a molded interior recess is provided. The apparatus includes a mold having a neck forming cavity having an end flange surface. A recess forming rod is slideable within a hole in the end flange surface from an initial position wherein a face of the rod is withdrawn into the hole in the mold to an extended position wherein the face of the rod protrudes into the neck forming cavity so as to create the molded interior recess. A punch is slideable within a hole in the rod from an initial position wherein a face of the punch is withdrawn into the hole in the mold to an extended position wherein the face of the punch protrudes beyond the face of the rod into the neck forming cavity so as to create the hole in the interior recess.

A die construction for forming integral hinges (60) for a blow molded carrying case. An edge of the main cavity of a lower die (12) of a blow molding die pair is provided at one peripheral wall portion (40) with sloping channels (38). A core pin (32) extends across and spans the sloping channels. The upper die (10) is provided at one peripheral portion with semi-cylindrical recesses (22) coaxial with the core pin and of the same length as the width of the sloping channel. A heated parison (46, 48) is placed (FIG. 1) between the two dies. With die closing and with the introduction of pressurized air (52) into the parison, the parison is deformed. At the same time, the pressurized air also causes one of the plastic parison sheets (46) of the parison to deform into the semi-cylindrical recess, and the other parison sheet (48) to deform into the sloping channel and also around the core pin. The two parison sheets fuse together around the core pin upon complete closing of the two dies (FIG. 3) to form a hinge boss (60) integral with the remainder of the parison sheets which form a carrying case half. The core pin (32) is then removed, to form a hinge pin recess through the hinge boss. Any number of such hinge bosses may be formed, with a single core pin spanning each sloping channel and each semi cylindrical recess. This construction and method obviates the need to subsequently drill hinge pin receiving holes (61) through the hinge bosses (60).

Method for forming double walled integral hinge members in blowmolded

A splice closure for environmental protection of aerial cable splices is provided. The splice closure includes a double-wall construction facilitating closure strength, construction and operation. A preferred construction is provided which facilitates extension of an intact closure, by means of a one-half section cut from a second, identical, closure. A trough and drain arrangement facilitates drainage of water from an interior of the closure, to the environment. Preferred orientation of an opening hinge in the closure, facilitates access to an enclosed cable splice area. A preferred arrangement is provided, for association of end cap arrangements with the closure.
