A navigational aid including an intelligent display mode and a communication system communicates with a vehicle's sensor system and/or historical- or time-based information to reduce the number of businesses that are displayed on the map by filtering out unneeded or less preferred services. When the vehicle's fuel level sensor detects that the fuel tank is almost empty, a message can be sent from the sensor system to the navigational aid such that the navigational aid can then begin showing a visual indication (e.g., text or graphical information such as an icon) of the location of fuel stations on the screen. Additionally, the location receiver indicates to the filter when the navigational aid is close to the programmed destination. At that point, the filter can be informed that it should start showing garages or areas where the vehicle can be parked without having cluttered the screen with parking garages that were not close to the destination. Similarly, when in need of other services (e.g., hotel or restaurant services), the navigational aid can display preferred brands (while omitting non-preferred brands) and make reservations when a communication system is included which is capable of communicating with the service provider. Additionally, prices or relative prices for the services may also be indicated.

Context-sensitive navigational aid

A detector and a method of its use with a guidewire to reduce the incidence of guidewires accidently being left inside patients during the placement of central venous (and other) catheters. In particular, an electronic detector detects whether a catheter has been placed over a guidewire and whether the guidewire has been removed thereafter. In addition, the distance the guidewire has progressed out the patient side of the detector housing which will correspond to the length of guidewire actually inside the patient and any time may be provided.

The present invention is directed to a guidewire configured to reduce the incidence of medical accidents when using guidewires including, but not limited to, the incidence of guidewires accidentally being pushed completely into a patient through a needle in the patient, guidewires accidently being left inside patients after the placement of central venous (and other) catheters, and guidewires accidently being left inside patients after removal of the catheter (at the end of an operation of other medical procedure). In particular, an intermediary portion (either in the form of a new shape (referred to herein as 'an obstruction portion') or an alternate (e.g., more flexible) material) of the guidewire inhibits further advancement into the needle with pushing motion. (The intermediary portion can be implemented as an additional portion connected between the patient-side portion and the doctor-side portion of the guidewire as well.)

Guidewire for catheter insertion

Disclosed herein is a method including receiving, via a bridge system including a first adapter and a second adapter, a service set identifier and a password of a capture device and discovering the capture device via the first adapter and the second adapter of the bridge system. Based on a comparison of a first signal-to-noise ratio between the first adapter and the capture device with a second signal-to-noise ratio between the second adapter and the capture device, the method includes assigning one of the first adapter and the second adapter as a host adapter in the bridge system to communicate with the capture device, transmitting, from the host adapter, a signal to the capture device to prioritize a frequency band to use for communication with the bridge system, receiving, via the frequency band, IP packets from the capture device at the host adapter and forwarding the IP packets from the bridge system to a client device.

System and method for providing underwater media capture

Disclosed herein is a system including an underwater housing having an underwater wireless module communicating with a camera, an above-water wireless module configured in a floating above-water housing, the underwater wireless module communicating with the above-water wireless module via a tether and a tether extension and retraction device that extends and retracts the tether. The above-water wireless module can be configured on a boat or a separate floating housing. The underwater module receives a first wireless signal from the media capture device capturing images to yield a first signal. The underwater module in the extended system transmits the first signal via the tether to the above-water module and the above-water module in the extended system transmits the first signal to yield a second wireless signal, wherein a mobile device can receive the second wireless signal and display the images or video captured from the camera.

System and method for providing underwater video

An emergency services automatic dialing device enables at least one number in a list of alternate numbers to be called prior to dialing an emergency services number (e.g., 911). This enables a user of a corresponding portable transceiver to try to reach someone else (e.g., a family member) before having to resort to calling emergency services (e.g., 911 for fire department, police or ambulance). The dialing device can call several numbers in a list until all the numbers are exhausted before dialing the emergency services number. Calling the list of numbers can also be overridden by pressing a button on the portable transceiver in a particular way.

List-based emergency calling device

Plural voice pendantscommunicate with a remote monitoring station using a wireless communications protocol and without requiring a connection to a circuit switched telephone network. Such a configuration may be used in any group environment, such as a retirement home or an assisted living facility. The voice pendants can be carried or worn by the residents/patients/members of the home or the facility to assist in calling for help in an emergency situation, e.g., if someone has fallen and cannot get up. By activating an actuator (e.g., a button or switch) on the pendant, the person wearing the pendant is put into voice communication with the monitoring station without the need to dial any phone numbers or hit a 'send' style button which indicates the end of a dialed number sequence.

Wireless, centralized emergency services system

When a person believes that he/she is having a heart attack, a pendant (or other communications device) can be activated to communicate an emergency services request signal to an emergency services notification station (e.g., that houses an AED). Once the emergency services notification station receives the emergency services request signal, the emergency services notification station can notify anyone in the area of the pending emergency (e.g., by sounding a siren and/or flashing a light and/or vibrating). The emergency services notification station can utilize an address display such that someone passing by is informed of the address of the person that needs assistance.

A system for providing emergency services in which a voice pendant provides voice signals to a corresponding radio-based voice-enabled base station which either (1) acoustically forwards the voice signals on to an existing base station or (2) forwards the voice signals on to an existing base station via a communications link. The existing base station is triggered by a triggering signal that is learned by the radio-based voice-enabled base station by either DTMF programming or by receiving the triggering signal from an existing pendant while in a learning mode.

Voice-extending emergency response system

A trainable back bend monitor system for use by individuals that will monitor and sense bending as it occurs and where a threshold level of bending can be set so that the individual will be warned when that predetermined threshold, unique to that individual, has been reached so that the individual can then be warned or signaled to stop bending thereby avoiding bending conditions that can lead to bodily strain that can cause lower back pain.

Back bend sensor

A method, system and computer program product for notifying a user of recently received information while away from the display connected to the computer. Using a non-commercial, private network, the information is forwarded from a computer through a transmitter to a portable receiver with an integrated display. Such information may be in the form of e-mails, stock quotes, and calendar alarms.

E-mail notification device

A system for tracking a location of a resident includes a resident height detection device (e.g., a small pendant, bracelet or other wearable device) and a receiver/dialer. When the system detects that the resident height detection device has remained within a threshold distance of the floor (e.g., 8 to 16 inches) for more than a given period of time (e.g., 15 seconds), an alarm condition signal would then be sent to a receiver/dialer elsewhere in the residence which would then forward an emergency signal to a caretaker or to an emergency operator by way of the receiver/dialer. The resident height detection device may further include an override switch to turn off tracking when the resident intends to be on the floor for an extended period of time.

A device, method, and computer program product for identifying and communicating with digital communication devices within a communication range that includes a transmitter configured to transmit a control signal and a voice signal, a receiver configured to receive the control signal and the voice signal, a user interface unit having a display area, and a computational unit configured to control the transmitter to periodically transmit identifying information as the control signal. The control signal is received as remote identifying information by the other digital communication devices within the communication range. The remote identifying information is displayed on the display area of each of the digital communication devices receiving the control signal.
