A method for applying a thermal barrier coating to an article having cooling holes and concurrently cleaning obstructions, such as TBC overspray or other debris, from those holes is disclosed. A thermal barrier coating is applied to a first surface of an article having cooling holes. Concurrently therewith, a plurality of particles are projected against a second surface of the article, such that at least some of the particles pass through the cooling holes, strike the overspray constituents prior to cooling, knocking at least some of the obstructions out of the cooling hole.

Method for concurrent thermal spray and cooling hole cleaning

Assembly of the combustor dome in a gas turbine engine is facilitated by providing a self-fixturing configuration. The combustor dome assembly is made up of a dome plate having a plurality of swirler assemblies mounted therein. Each swirler assembly is provided with a locating pin that extends between the dome plate and the swirler assembly for positioning the swirler assembly with respect to the dome plate without the use of fixturing tools. Preferably, the swirler assembly includes a swirl cup and an outlet sleeve mounted in the dome plate. The locating pin is pressed into a hole formed in the swirl cup. One end of the pin is received in a slot formed in the dome plate, and the other end of the pin is received in a slot formed in the outlet sleeve. Thus, the locating pin sets the circumferential orientation of the swirler assembly in relation to the dome plate. A shoulder on the swirl cup sets the cup axially with respect to the dome plate, and a shoulder on the outlet sleeve sets the sleeve axially with respect to the swirl cup.

Self fixturing combustor dome assembly

A double dome combustor for a gas turbine engine includes first and second domes joined to outer and inner liners. The first and second domes are joined together by two load transmitting structural paths for providing increased rigidity of the first and second domes for accommodating pressure loading from compressed airflow. In one exemplary embodiment, a dome cowl having first and second cowls is used to additionally join together the first and second domes.

Double dome combustor

A fuel injector nozzle support includes a support plate joinable to a combustor dome and a ferrule slidably joined to the support plate. The ferrule includes a base, and a bore for slidably receiving a fuel injector nozzle. The ferrule base has a noncircular perimeter and the support plate includes a receptacle for receiving the ferrule base which has an inner circumference being complementary to the ferrule base perimeter for preventing rotation of the ferrule base greater than a predetermined maximum rotation while allowing radial translation of the ferrule base for accommodating differential radial thermal movement of the fuel injector nozzle and the support plate. In an exemplary embodiment, the base perimeter and the receptacle have complementary straight and arcuate profiles, and the support plate is formed with counterrotational swirler vanes of a swirler fixedly supported to a combustor dome. The noncircular perimeter assembly eliminates the use of conventional antirotational lugs and stops.
