A pressure swing adsorption process is provided to remove oxygen from a hydrogen stream through the use of a copper material in combination with layers of adsorbent to remove water, C2 and C3 hydrocarbons, as well as other impurities. The feed gas comprises more than 70 mol % hydrogen, at least 1 mol % methane and more than 10 ppmv oxygen. The purified product hydrogen stream comprises greater than 99 mol % hydrogen, with less than 1 ppmv oxygen.

A process of treating a natural gas stream is provided comprising sending natural gas stream through a first adsorbent bed to remove water and heavy hydrocarbons (C8+) to produce a partially treated gas stream in which the first adsorbent bed is regenerated by a temperature swing adsorption process and then sending the partially treated gas stream through a second adsorption bed to remove carbon dioxide and lighter hydrocarbons (C7&#x2212;) to produce a purified natural gas stream wherein said second adsorption bed is regenerated by a temperature pressure swing adsorption process.

A process is provided for the concentration and recovery of ethylene and heavier components from an oxygenate conversion process. A separation process such as a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process is used to remove hydrogen and methane from a demethanizer overhead stream comprising hydrogen, methane and C hydrocarbons and subsequently return the recovered C hydrocarbons to be admixed with the effluent from the oxygenate conversion process. This integration of a separation zone with a fractionation scheme in an ethylene recovery scheme using an initial demethanizer zone resulted in significant capital and operating cost savings by the elimination of cryogenic ethylene-based refrigeration from the overall recovery scheme.

Isomerization process using membrane for recovery of halides

An apparatus for pressure and temperature swing adsorption processes is described. Such processes include pressure swing adsorption, temperature swing adsorption, and sorption cooling. The apparatus, a spirally wound module, provides high efficiency gas separations by reducing the differential pressure required between the adsorption pressure and the desorption pressure. The apparatus comprises an adsorption zone containing at least one adsorbent paper layer containing a selective adsorbent and an adsorbent spacer spirally wound about a hollow mandrel and in intimate thermal contact with a heat transfer zone. For pressure and temperature swing processes, the adsorption zone is disposed on the outside of the heat transfer zone, and for sorption cooling processes, the heat transfer zone is disposed on the outside of the adsorption zone and the adsorption zone is contained in an envelope-like leaf. The apparatus provides an opportunity to de-couple a purge step from the heating step in thermal swing adsorption with a resulting improvement in efficiency.

A feedstream comprising nitrous oxide is purified by a pressure swing adsorption process employing a copurge with an oxygen-lean stream to produce a high purity nitrous oxide stream. The high purity nitrous oxide stream can be incorporated in a complex for the production of adipic acid to recover nitrous oxide from a dilute waste stream and pass the recovered nitrous oxide to a process for the production of phenol from an aromatic hydrocarbon. Unreacted nitrous oxide from the phenol production step acid can be recovered in a second, or vent PSA step, and combined with the recovery of byproduct nitrous oxide waste streams from the production of adipic for the overall recovery of nitrous oxide, thereby significantly reducing nitrous oxide emissions from the production of adipic acid.

Nitrous oxide purification by pressure swing adsorption

A process is provided for the purification of natural gas wherein the nitrogen content of natural gas is reduced to pipeline specification using a pressure swing adsorption processes with a suitable selective adsorbent for methane purification. More specifically, the present invention relates to the use of a particular combination of steps in the PSA cycle to produce a product natural gas having a reduced nitrogen content, a nitrogen-rich stream and a high heat content fuel gas stream.
