A method of producing high strength shaped alumina by feeding alumina power into an agglomerator having a shaft with mixers able to displace the alumina power along the shaft, spraying a liquid binder onto the alumina power as it is displaced along the shaft to form a shaped alumina, and calcining the shaped alumina. The shaped alumina produced having a loose bulk density of greater than or equal to 1.20 g/ml, a surface area less than 10 m/g, impurities of less than 5 ppm of individual metals and less than 9 ppm of impurities in total, and/or crush strength of greater than 12,000 psi.

Magnesium aluminate spinels are made by hydrothermally aging an aqueous slurry of a spinel precursor which can be (a) a mixture of boehmite alumina and a magnesium precursor, (b) an aluminum magnesium oxide or hydroxide, and (c) mixtures thereof. At least one of the aged slurries is dried to remove water and produce at least one dried spinel precursor. The dried spinel precursor is then calcined to produce the magnesium aluminate spinel.

A medicine ball device having a shell portion with an internal cavity formed therein and an outside surface. A weight is located in the internal cavity. A pair of hand grips extends out of the shell portion at opposite sides thereof. A pair of elongate loop handles extend out of the shell portion from opposite sides of the shell portion, which elongate loop handles pass through the medicine ball device. The loop handles are formed as a strap that engages with the weight to prevent the elongate loop handles from being pulled out of the medicine ball device. A number of attachments accessible from outside of the shell portion are used to attach other devices to the medicine ball device.

A process for preparing a stabilized alumina wherein an aqueous slurry of a precursor boehmite alumina is admixed with an effective amount of a stabilizer such as a water-soluble salt of a polyvalent metal cation of Groups IIA and IIIB of the periodic table, the slurry containing the alumina and the stabilizer being aged at a pH of from about 3 to about 9 and a temperature greater than about 70.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to convert the greater portion of said alumina to a colloidal sol, the colloidal sol being recovered and calcined to produce a stabilized alumina.
