A system, method and computer-readable medium for sharing bandwidth resources among a plurality of antennas in a network of base transceiver stations are provided. According to the method, a bandwidth allocation of each of a plurality of antennas is determined, and a bandwidth demand on each of the plurality of antennas is monitored. If the bandwidth demand of one or more of the antennas exceeds a first threshold, the bandwidth allocation of those antennas is increased, based upon the bandwidth demand. If the bandwidth demand of another one or more of the antennas drops below a second threshold, the bandwidth allocation of those antennas is decreased. Accordingly, the bandwidth resources available to the network of antennas may be dynamically allocated, based upon the bandwidth demand in the network.

System, method and computer-readable medium for on-demand dynamic bandwidth allocation in a network of antennas for multiple base transceiver stations

A method and system is provided for establishing a secure intercarrier, interlayer communications path that can allocate bandwidth on demand. Using the present invention, one network carrier uses the resources of another carrier to communicate with an otherwise unreachable target component. As bandwidth capacity is reached, the intercarrier connection can be dynamically migrated to a lower network layer. Transmissions of the upper layer are mapped into the lower layer to satisfy the additional bandwidth requested by the connection.

Method and system for establishing a cross-carrier, multilayer communications path

A secure communication channel is established between a portable computing device and a fixed public network outlet. Infrared beaming is employed wherein the IR beam is confined to an optical fiber placed between the IR beaming ports of the portable device and the fixed outlet. A portable computing device such as a PDA or a laptop PC has an infrared beaming port capable of bidirectional serial communication. A fiber optic system includes an optical fiber, a retractable spool for retaining the optical fiber, a fiber mount for mounting a first end of the optical fiber in alignment with the infrared beaming port of the portable computing device, and a terminator at a second end of the optical fiber. A public network outlet is provided in a fixed location and has an infrared data port in communication with an optical fiber connector adapted to receive the terminator. The infrared data port is in bidirectional serial communication with the infrared beaming port in order to authenticate the portable computing device and to provide public network services in response to the authentication.
