The present disclosure is directed to an apparatus and method for processing lignocellulosic material. Information throttle that modifies a device's access to applications, features, or information to enforce workplace use policies. May be used with 'bring your own devices' that belong to a user but are also used at work. For example, the system may disable games, media players, or social media when it determines that a device is used at work. A usage context monitor determines the context in which the device is currently used. The monitor may determine that a device is used for work when the time matches working hours, the device location matches a work site location, or the network connected to a device matches a workplace network. In addition to blocking access to inappropriate features, the information throttle may allow access to sensitive information only when the device is at work. Access may also depend on factors such as user credentials and the identity and configuration of the device.

Partially reduces performance or features of a user's electronic device if the user does not comply with an agreement. An agreement may specify tasks or activities to be performed, such as homework or chores, or required results such as grades. Partial throttling of the device when the user is not in compliance with the agreement may include for example disabling a subset of the apps or services on the device, slowing down the device or selected applications, denying access to selected information sources, limiting audio volume or display resolution, or limiting time on activities such as web browsing. The device may remain usable, but with reduced features or performance. Throttling actions may also be based on location, schedule, or environmental conditions. The system may reward compliance with the agreement by increasing performance, by re-enabling previously disabled applications, or by providing direct rewards such as money or credits.

Throttling of devices may also depend on other factors, such as homework completion, test results, grades, and environmental conditions. Machine learning techniques may be applied to determine when electronic communications may violate the rules. For example, probabilistic topic models may be applied to determine the topics of electronic communications, and to assess whether these topics violate the rules.

Controls electronic devices and/or throttles electronic devices and/or information for electronic devices based on agreements or events and/or based on schedule, location, time, or any combination thereof. An agreement includes condition(s) to satisfy the agreement, such as task(s) or activities to be performed by an agreement performer, for example based on a schedule and/or location, at a particular time, or time period, or, or events that may be detected, and actions performed to enforce or assert the agreement. Actions may include controlling the electronic device and/or at least partially enabling/disabling or otherwise limiting, reducing or increasing the amount or type of information allowed with respect to any or all electronic devices associated with the agreement performer. Embodiments may reduce or block information from particular sources during a scheduled school class to limit web surfing for information related to that class based on a schedule and/or location of the electronic device.
