Provided is a novel system and apparatus for producing primary standard gas mixtures. The system includes providing a gas permeation device having a constant diffusion rate into a temperature controlled enclosure; connecting a supply source of a component to the permeation device; routing the component from the gas permeation device to a product container until a desired amount of said component in the product container is reached; and supplying a balance of purified gas to the product container to obtain a known concentration of component in the primary standard gas mixture.

System and apparatus for producing primary standard gas mixtures

This invention relates to methods and systems for detecting contaminants that can precipitate and deposit on a workpiece during a carbon dioxide application, especially contaminants that are already present and dissolved in the fresh carbon dioxide fed to the application. One aspect of this invention includes a method of detecting contaminants dissolved in a carbon dioxide stream, including the steps of sampling at least a portion of the carbon dioxide stream to form a carbon dioxide sample; modifying at least one physical condition of the carbon dioxide sample to form an aerosol that includes gaseous carbon dioxide and at least one suspended contaminant; and detecting the number of particles of suspended contaminant in at least a portion of the carbon dioxide sample with at least one particle counter. A system for continuously detecting contaminants dissolved in a carbon dioxide stream is also described.

Method for analyzing impurities in carbon dioxide

The invention is a method and a device for measuring the filtering or purifying capacity of a purifier. The invention allows the use of a single analyzer for sampling the inlet and outlet streams. This is accomplished by sampling the inlet stream only at some times when the change in the inlet stream is expected to occur. At other times the outlet stream is sampled to monitor its composition. A computer system on the basis of the accumulated data decides when it is time to replace or to regenerate the purifier or the filter bed. The computer system also determines the strategy of when to sample the inlet stream. Various system sensors may be used to make this determination, such as pressure sensors and level sensors. The data from other sensors, such as flow sensors, may be used in the calculations performed by the computer system.

An analyzer suitable for performing continuous gas analysis in ultra-high purity applications. The analyzer combines a low-level emission source and a gaseous emission spectrometer having a charge coupled device (CCD) diode array as a detector. The CCD detector replaces one or more photomultipliers and narrow bandpass filters typically used in spectrometers. The analyzer performs various processing operations to evaluate and eliminate the effect of background light level, or dark spectrum.

A gas emission spectrometer and method for analyzing a continuously flowing gas stream using gas emission spectroscopy to measure low concentration levels of one or more gas/vapor impurities in the gas stream. Alternating power is applied to an electric discharge source to generate emissive radiation which is filtered into an optical signal at the emission wavelength of a preselected impurity gas. The optical signal is converted into an electrical signal which is selectively amplified within a narrow frequency range centered at substantially twice the excitation frequency of the alternating power source. The impurity concentration is measured from the amplified signal upon rectification.

Gas emission spectrometer and method

A particle sampling system which includes a flow restrictor positioned in a conduit between a vent and an analyzer probe and restricts flow in the conduit to maintain an overpressure of sample gas at the counter probe which, in turn, forces the gas sample into the particle analyzer. The system further includes a reservoir for holding a working fluid usable with a particle analyzer and a pressurized gas source which is used to pressurize the reservoir to enable supply of the working fluid against the pressure of the gas analysis sample and to provide a purge gas for the analyzer.

A process for the continuous analysis of trace contaminants in a process gas of O.sub.2, N, Ar or H.sub.2. A sample of the process gas is passed through a plurality of analyzers with each dedicated to detect the presence of a predetermined trace contaminant and to provide an output signal corresponding to the level of trace impurity detected. A status signal is generated representative of preselected parameters of analyzer operation. The output and status signals are converted by a computer into data values. A rule based program provides a problem analysis to identify distinct problems based on the examination of the data values. The rule based program is executed by a separate command program which matches the problems identified by the rule based program with remedial actions to remedy erroneous conditions of analysis.
