A method of forming an organic light emitting diode comprising the steps of: providing a substrate comprising a first electrode for injection of charge carriers of a first type; forming a charge transporting layer by depositing over the substrate a charge transporting material for transporting charge carriers of the first type, the charge transporting material being soluble in a solvent; treating the charge transporting layer to render it insoluble in the solvent; forming an electroluminescent layer by depositing onto the charge transporting layer a composition comprising the solvent, a phosphorescent material, and a host material; and depositing over the electroluminescent layer a second electrode for injection of charge carriers of a second type.

Optical device comprising a charge transport layer of insoluble organic material and method for the production thereof

Electroluminescent device

A method of forming an optical device comprising the steps of: providing a substrate comprising a first electrode capable of injecting or accepting charge carriers of a first type; forming over the first electrode a first layer that is at least partially insoluble in a solvent by depositing a first semiconducting material that is free of cross-linkable vinyl or ethynyl groups and is, at the time of deposition, soluble in the solvent; forming a second layer in contact with the first layer and comprising a second semiconducting material by depositing a second semiconducting material from a solution in the solvent; and forming over the second layer a second electrode capable of injecting or accepting charge carriers of a second type wherein the first layer is rendered at least partially insoluble by one or more of heat, vacuum and ambient drying treatment following deposition of the first semiconducting material.

Optical device

A polymer for use in an optical device comprising a first, optionally substituted, repeat unit of formula and a second, optionally substituted, repeat unit of formula wherein each Ar and Ar' is the same or different and comprises an optionally substituted aryl or heteroaryl group and optionally a third, optionally substituted, repeat unit in a molar ratio of no greater than 5%, the third repeat unit having a formula &#x2014;Ar&#x2014;N(Ar)&#x2014;Ar&#x2014; and having a single nitrogen atom in its backbone.
