A device, system and method for enhancing high-contrast and text regions in projected images is provided. A device applies, to an input image: a high-contrast sharpening filter sharpening high-contrast regions producing a high-contrast sharpened image; and a background sharpening filter sharpening other regions of the input producing a background sharpened image, the background sharpening filter applying less sharpening than the high-contrast sharpening filter. The device: determines, using high-contrast and motion detectors, the input image and/or previous images, masks selecting stationary high-contrast regions of the input image; determines, using the masks, a background mask selecting remaining regions of the input image; applies the masks to the high-contrast sharpened image selecting stationary high-contrast regions therefrom; applies the background mask to the background sharpened image selecting the remaining regions therefrom; combines the stationary high-contrast and remaining regions to produce a combined enhanced image; and controls a projector to project the combined enhanced image.

A per-pixel correction function for modifying image data used by the display device to provide the images is determined based on: the respective images of each of the colors acquired by the camera corrected into the HVS model using a predetermined color-relationship between the camera and a Human Visual System (HVS) model for the colors of the display device. The display device is controlled to provide the images using the image data as corrected using the per-pixel correction function.

A device, system and method for content-adaptive resolution-enhancement is provided. A plurality of subframe streams are generated from a video stream, each of the plurality of subframe streams comprising a lower resolution version of the video stream, pixel-shifted from one another. A plurality of output subframe streams are generated from the plurality of subframe streams in a one-to-one relationship by: applying a plurality of video enhancement filters to each of the plurality of subframe streams, each of the plurality of video enhancement filters for enhancing different features of the video stream; and, combining one or more resulting enhanced subframe streams into a respective output subframe stream based on data in one or more regions of the video stream. One or more projectors are controlled to project the plurality of output subframe streams to combine the plurality of output subframe streams into a higher resolution projected video stream.

Device, system and method for content-adaptive resolution-enhancement

A device, system and method for subliminally projecting structured light patterns is provided. A computing device alters at least a portion of a plurality of content bitplanes to subtract a structured light bitplane therefrom, such that pixels of the structured light bitplane and the plurality of content bitplanes, when altered, sum to a same respective brightness as corresponding pixels of the plurality of content bitplanes before alteration. A a projector projects the structured light bitplane and the plurality of content bitplanes having the structured light bitplane subtracted therefrom. A camera captures images of the structured light bitplane as projected by the projector, for example to calibrate the projector.

Device, system and method for subliminally projecting structured light patterns

A projection system for projecting an image with an increased apparent resolution is provided. The projection system includes one or more projectors, a resampler module and a deconvolution module. The resampler module is configured to upsample an incoming high-resolution signal, perform an integer shift operation on a signal, and downsample to two or more low-resolution signals. The deconvolution module is configured to filter the upsampled high-resolution signal using a spatial domain deconvolution operation, the spatial domain deconvolution operation approximating frequency domain optical corrections based on characteristics of the one or more projectors. Preferably, the spatial domain deconvolution operation uses an N&#xd7;N spatial kernel extracted from a spatial domain approximation of a Wiener filter.

A forward-on-forward high dynamic range architecture for digital micromirror devices device is provided. In particular, provided herein is a device that includes two digital micromirror devices (DMDs), each operated in a forward configuration, such that each is illuminated at a respective non-normal angle and a respective output image is reflected at a normal angle, a subject plane of a first DMD being parallel to the first DMD. Optics between the DMDs are configured to convey light reflected from the first DMD to illuminate an image plane at a second DMD in the forward configuration, the optics including an equivalent lens plane. At least one optical device between the DMDs is configured to: tilt the subject plane of the first DMD to an equivalent tilted subject plane, the equivalent lens plane, the equivalent tilted subject plane and the image plane all intersecting at a Scheimpflug intersection.

The dock includes a housing comprising an aperture in a recess for receiving and supporting the portable electronic device, and a communication assembly disposed in the housing and moveable relative to the housing.
