A system for providing a printed output image including information from a data collection system onto a single print medium is disclosed. Data collection systems and methods are disclosed for collecting data from a plurality of spatially separated sources and for providing that data as a sequence of output signals. The data collection system includes a housing a selection element, one or more image paths and an image plane. The selection element selectively and alternatively couples visual images from separate object sources along the image paths and onto the image plane. The selection element may include optical shutters for selectively occluding or transmitting the visual images and may include illumination elements for providing a controlled sequence of illumination at selected ones of the object sources. The system can assemble the printed data in a format suitable for printing as an identification card.

Apparatus for coupling multiple data sources onto a printed document

Systems and methods for manufacturing and inspecting documents having information recorded thereon include a visual inspection cell, a recording unit, and a packaging unit. The manufactured documents can include driver's licenses, credit cards, military identification cards, welfare cards, social security cards, and other such cards having information recorded thereon suitable for identifying persons or objects. In an optional embodiment of the invention, the manufactured documents include a laminated overlay that includes a holographic overlay as a security feature and the visual inspection cell includes a lighting unit and camera adapted to illuminate and image the recorded data positioned behind the hologram.

Systems and methods for recording data

Systems and methods for manufacturing and inspecting documents having information recorded thereon are described that can include a visual inspection cell, a recording unit, and a packaging unit. The manufactured data cards can include driver's licenses, credit cards, military identification cards, welfare cards, social security cards, and other such cards having information recorded thereon suitable for identifying persons or objects. In an optional embodiment of the invention, the manufactured documents include a laminated overlay that includes a holographic overlay as a security feature and the visual inspection cell includes a lighting unit and camera adapted to illuminate and image the recorded data positioned behind the hologram.

A transport assembly adapted specifically to transport microdisks one after the other from a stack to a disk drive spaced from the stack includes a carriage which supports a finger mechanism for engaging the disks. The carriage is moved along a track from a home position adjacent the stack to an advanced position adjacent the disk drive by a special motorized crank assembly so that the finger mechanism picks off the lowest disk in the stack and pushes it into the disk drive. The crank assembly then retracts the carriage to a standby position in front of the disk drive until the completion of the read/write operation on the disk by the drive. When the disk is ejected from the disk drive, it is gripped by the finger mechanism and the crank assembly is controlled to move the carriage to its home position, thereby withdrawing the disk from the drive. As the carriage proceeds to its home position, the diskette is released from the finger mechanism and routed to a selected location below the track. The apparatus is designed to minimize downtime due to temporary jams or stoppages of the carriage along its track. Yet, if serious stoppages should occur, the apparatus minimizes stress on and damage to the apparatus parts.
