A medical device is configured to detect an atrial tachyarrhythmia episode. The device senses a cardiac signal, identifies R-waves in the cardiac signal attendant ventricular depolarizations and determines classification factors from the R-waves identified over a predetermined time period. The device classifies the predetermined time period as one of unclassified, atrial tachyarrhythmia and non-atrial tachyarrhythmia by comparing the determined classification factors to classification criteria. A classification criterion is adjusted from a first classification criterion to a second classification criterion after at least one time period being classified as atrial tachyarrhythmia. An atrial tachyarrhythmia episode is detected by the device in response to at least one subsequent time period being classified as atrial tachyarrhythmia based on the adjusted classification criterion.

Atrial arrhythmia episode detection in a cardiac medical device

A medical device is configured to sense a cardiac electrical signal and detect an atrial tachyarrhythmia based on the sensed cardiac electrical signal. The medical device is configured to determine that far field oversensing criteria are met by the cardiac electrical signal during the detected atrial tachyarrhythmia. The medical device may detect termination of the detected atrial tachyarrhythmia in response to the far field oversensing criteria being met.

In one example, a computing device processes parametric patient data and provider data for a patient to generate a long-term probability that a cardiac arrhythmia will occur in the patient within a first time period. In response to determining that the cardiac arrhythmia is likely to occur within the first time period, the computing device causes a medical device to process the parametric patient data to generate a short-term probability that the cardiac arrhythmia will occur in the patient within a second time period. In response to determining that the cardiac arrhythmia is likely to occur within the second time period, the medical device performs a remediative action to reduce the likelihood that the cardiac arrhythmia will occur.

Multi-tier prediction of cardiac tachyarrythmia

A system for detecting an atrial tachyarrhythmia episode includes a medical device having sensing circuitry configured to receive a cardiac electrical signal from electrodes coupled to the medical device and a processor configured to detect an atrial tachyarrhythmia episode in response to a time duration of the cardiac electrical signal classified as an atrial tachyarrhythmia being greater than or equal to a first detection threshold. The processor is configured to determine if detection threshold adjustment criteria are met based on at least the detected first atrial tachyarrhythmia episode and adjust the first detection threshold to a second detection threshold different than the first detection threshold in response to the detection threshold adjustment criteria being met.

Automatic thresholds for atrial tachyarrhythmia detection in an implantable medical device

A medical device performs a method for detecting an atrial tachyarrhythmia by determining RR intervals between successive R-waves of a cardiac electrical signal and determining classification factors from the R-waves identified over a predetermined time period by determining at least a first classification factor correlated to variability of the RR intervals and a second classification factor indicating a presence of a ventricular tachyarrhythmia. The device classifies the cardiac electrical signal of the predetermined time period as unclassified, atrial tachyarrhythmia or non-atrial tachyarrhythmia by comparing the determined classification factors to classification criteria. The predetermined time period is classified as unclassified when the second classification factor indicates the presence of a ventricular tachyarrhythmia.

A method for sensing far-field R-waves in a leadless, intracardiac pacemaker implanted in an atrium of a patient's heart may involve sensing an electrical signal generated by the heart with two electrodes and a first sensing channel and/or a second sensing channel of the pacemaker, comparing a first timing marker from the first sensing channel with a second timing marker from the second sensing channel, and either determining that the sensed signal is a P-wave, if the first and second timing markers indicate that the sensed signal was sensed by the first and second sensing channels within a predetermined threshold of time from one another, or determining that the sensed signal is a far-field R-wave, if the sensed signal is sensed by the second sensing channel and not sensed by the first sensing channel.

Far-field R-wave detection to control atrial pace timing in a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker

A medical device and associated method for detecting and treating tachyarrhythmias acquires a cardiac signal using electrodes coupled to a sensing module. During an initial detection process, a shockable cardiac rhythm is detected by a processing module configured to compare the cardiac signal to a first set of detection criteria. By analyzing the cardiac signal, the processing module establishes at least one patient-specific detection threshold during the initial detection process. Upon establishing the at least one patient-specific detection threshold, the initial detection process is stopped, and a next detection process is started which includes comparing the cardiac signal to a second set of detection criteria including the at least one patient-specific detection threshold. In some embodiments, user programming of tachyarrhythmia detection parameters is not required.

Staged rhythm detection system and method

A medical device system and associated method for guiding ablation therapy sense cardiac signals using implantable electrodes and detect spontaneous cardiac events from the sensed cardiac signals. Pacing pulses are delivered in response to detecting a spontaneous cardiac event and a return cycle length is measured. The spontaneous cardiac event is clustered with a previously detected cardiac event in response to the measured return cycle length. Data corresponding to the clustered cardiac events is displayed to guide an ablation therapy.
