The present invention relates to a fast particulate superabsorbent polymer composition comprising a polymer comprising a neutralized aluminum salt solution applied to the surface of a particulate superabsorbent polymer; wherein an aqueous solution of the neutralized aluminum salt has a pH value from about 5.5 to about 8; and subsequent to subjecting the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition to the Processing Test, the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition has a permeability stability index of from about 0.60 to about 0.99, and a compressibility from 1.30 mm/N to about 4 mm/N as measured by the Compression Test, and wherein the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition may have a Vortex time of from 25 to 60 seconds and absorbency under load at 0.9 psi of from 15 to 21 g/g.

Particulate superabsorbent polymer composition having improved stability and fast absorption

The present invention relates to a particulate superabsorbent polymer composition comprising a polymer comprising a neutralized aluminum salt solution applied to the surface of a particulate superabsorbent polymer; wherein an aqueous solution of the neutralized aluminum salt has a pH value from about 5.5 to about 8 and the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition has a mean particle size distribution of from 300 to 400 &#x3bc;m, an original Free Swell Gel Bed Permeability (FSGBP) of about 20&#xd7;10cmto about 200&#xd7;10cm; and subsequent to subjecting the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition to the Processing Test, the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition has a permeability stability index of from about 0.60 to about 0.99 and having particles having a particle diameter of larger than 600 &#x3bc;m in an amount of less than about 15 wt % of the particulate superabsorbent polymer composition and as specified by standard sieve classification.

The present invention relates to a particulate superabsorbent polymer composition which absorbs water, aqueous liquids, and blood, and a process to make the superabsorbent polymers, wherein a superabsorbent polymer is surface treated with a neutralized multivalent metal salt solution having a pH value similar as that of human skin. A process for the preparation of superabsorbent polymer containing clay, the process including the steps of (I) polymerizing a polymerization mixture comprising: (a) one or more ethylenically unsaturated carboxyl-containing monomers, (b) one or more crosslinking agents, (c) optionally one or more comonomers copolymerizable with the carboxyl-containing monomer, (d) neutralizing agent to partially neutralize the polymer to from about 50% to about 99%, by weight, and (e) a polymerization medium, to form a crosslinked partially neutralized hydrogel, (II) admixing a clay with the crosslinked partially neutralized hydrogel to form partially neutralized superabsorbent polymer-clay hydrogel; (III) drying the crosslinked partially neutralized hydrogel at a temperature from about 190&#xb0; C. to about 210&#xb0; C. and for a time period of from about 15 minutes to about 120 minutes, and (IV) comminuting the dried partially neutralized superabsorbent polymer-clay hydrogel to particles.

In another embodiment, the absorbent structure is made at least in part from a superabsorbent material having a retention capacity (CRC) as determined by a Centrifuge Retention Capacity Test of at least about 25 g/g, an absorbency under load (AUL) at 0.9 psi as determined by an Absorbency Under Load Test of at least 18 and a free swell gel bed permeability (GBP) as determined by a Free Swell Gel Bed Permeability Test of at least about 350&#xd7;10cm.

The invention relates to a superabsorbent polymer wherein an increased rate of water absorption is obtained by the addition of an encapsulated blowing agent. The invention relates to a superabsorbent polymer including an encapsulating blowing agent and having a vortex time of 40 seconds or less. In particular, the superabsorbent polymer includes from about 55 to about 99.9 wt. % of polymerizable unsaturated acid group containing monomers; from about 0.001 to about 5.0 wt. % of internal crosslinking agent; wherein the wherein the composition has a degree of neutralization of more than about 20%; and from about 0.05 to about 10.0 wt. % of an encapsulated blowing agent.
