Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for spell checking URLs in a resource. Embodiments include identifying within a resource a URL, determining whether the URL is valid, and marking the URL as misspelled if the URL is invalid. In typical embodiments, determining whether the URL is valid is carried out by resolving a domain name contained in the URL. Typical embodiments also include suggesting an alternative spelling for the URL. In some embodiments, suggesting an alternative spelling for the URL is carried out by identifying a keyword in the resource, querying a search engine with the identified keyword, and selecting a URL in dependence upon search results returned by the search engine.

Spell checking URLs in a resource

Authorized priority alerts are permitted to 'pop up' on top of a running screensaver in a computer display without suspending operation of the screensaver. A windows manager monitors for priority alerts from applications. If the screensaver is active in the display, the windows manager determines if the alert issuing application and alert type are permitted to breakthrough the screensaver. If so, an alert notification window identifying the content of the alert is generated and displayed in z-order on top of the screensaver, without interrupting the operation of the screensaver displayed underneath. Some notification windows implement security features by displaying only a portion of the content of the corresponding alert or completely obscuring the content of the alert and only notifying of the presence of the alert. An additional security feature requires the user to enter a password in the notification window before the content or type of alert is displayed.

A system and method of utilizing a network to correct flawed media data. The media device includes a processor, a memory, a network adapter, a removable media interface, an error-correction module, and a communication module. The network device enables the media device to connect to the network and server. The removable media interface enables a user to couple a removable medium to the media device. After a user inserts a removable medium into the removable media interface, the processor and error-correction module examines the removable medium for physical errors. If the number of detected errors exceeds a predetermined threshold, the media device, via the network adapter and the communication module, queries a server for correction data. This correction data may be utilized by the media device to enable successful processing of the data stored on the removable medium.

Utilizing a network to correct flawed media data

A system for adjusting scanned images for printing. In response to scanning one or more objects, one or more bounding boxes are calculated for the scanned image. The scanned image is cropped to a size of the one or more bounding boxes. The cropped image is rotated to align with a scanner bed and other cropped images if necessary. The cropped image is centered. It is determined if more scanned image data can fit within a selected page size. In response to determining that more scanned image data can fit within the selected page size, it is determined if more objects need to be scanned in a print job. In response to determining that more objects do not need to be scanned in the print job, a print layout is determined for the print job. Then, the print job is printed on the selected page size.

Method and system for adjusting scanned images

A text modification mechanism is provided for formatting data such that the information can be reasonably deciphered by a human, but cannot be easily recognized by computer recognition techniques. The text modification mechanism alters printed text so that computer recognition of characters becomes difficult. Modification of the text may be accomplished with manipulation of the fonts or the background. The mechanism may also modify the text based on user preferences.

The present invention provides a method, apparatus, and computer instructions for warning of a presence of a person in a zone having an inadequate security clearance. Movement of the person in the zone is detected. Method and apparatus for a proximity warning system

A recording system receives a broadcast signal from at least one service provider. An offset controller of the recording system samples a portion of the current broadcast signal on a particular channel over a particular interval of time. The offset controller then compares the sampled portion with a selection of features anticipated to be broadcast during the particular interval of time. Next, if the offset controller detects that a particular feature from among the selection of features matches within the portion of the current broadcast signal, then the offset controller calculates an offset time from a difference between an expected time for broadcast of the particular feature and an actual time of broadcast. The recording time for a program to be recorded is initially set to the start time and end time from a predetermined broadcast schedule. The offset controller adjusts the recording time of the program that is affected by the offset time so that the recording time of the program is synched to the actual broadcast time of the program on the particular channel.

A technique for storing or backing up data to a removable media such as a CD or DVD with an enhanced probability that such data can be successfully read or recovered from such media subsequent to the writing/storing/backing-up of the data. This enhanced probability is achieved by storing the data to be copied to the media in multiple different physical locations of the media, such that a plurality of duplicate copies of the data exists on the media. Because there are multiple copies of the data stored on the media, the probability of being able to successfully read at least one good copy of the data is enhanced. For example, if one of the copies cannot be successfully read due to an unrecoverable error, another of the copies can be used to satisfy the read or restore operation. It is also possible to read all copies of the data in response to a read/restore operation, and any differences in the read data will indicate an error with at least one of the copies. Selection of which copy to select and use to satisfy the read request is based on a vote, where the copies are matched against one another, and the copy having the most matches with other copies is deemed to be the good copy and is used to satisfy the read or restore operation.

A user enters control settings into a content receiver whereby the control settings correspond to a particular viewer or a particular time-of-day. The content receiver receives a media signal and metadata that includes censorship level information. The content receiver uses the control settings to identify an applicable censorship level and uses the metadata to de-scramble the media signal to a censorship level corresponding to the identified applicable censorship level. The content receiver provides the de-scrambled media signal to a viewer's display.
