A solid-state device having a substrate that receives an ionizing radiation, logic circuits, integrity circuits, and a collection circuit. The logic circuits are operational to perform logic functions. The logic circuits are located in an area on the substrate, and are individually susceptible to a possible corruption by the ionizing radiation. Each integrity cell is initialized to a predetermined state. The integrity cells are located in the area on the substrate, arranged in a pattern neighboring the logic circuits, and individually susceptible to disrupting the predetermined state in response to the ionizing radiation. The collection circuit is located on the substrate. The collection circuit is operational to read the plurality of integrity cells, and assert a report signal that identifies the possible corruption in a subset of the logic circuits due to the ionizing radiation in response to reading an incorrect state in a neighboring one of the integrity cells.

Radiation induced error detection in solid-state devices

In an example, an apparatus includes a cryogenic container configured to store a cryogenic fluid, a superconducting coil disposed within the cryogenic container, and an outer casing surrounding at least a lateral surface area of the cryogenic container. The apparatus is configured such that, while the superconducting coil is carrying a current, is in a superconducting state, and is being cooled by the cryogenic fluid stored in the cryogenic container, an outward magnetic pressure is imposed on the cryogenic container and the outer casing. The cryogenic container and the outer casing are configured to withstand the outward magnetic pressure for at least a predetermined period of time, including while the superconducting coil is being charged to the superconducting state. An occurrence of a trigger event while the outward magnetic pressure is being imposed causes the cryogenic container and the outer casing to expand and burst into radially-dispersed fragments.

Apparatuses and methods for a superconducting explosive

A system for generating an energy beam based laser includes an apparatus for receiving an energy beam and for generating an energy beam based laser. The apparatus is configurable or controllable for tuning an output wavelength of the laser generated by the apparatus using the energy beam. The apparatus includes a first component for producing a first magnetic field oriented in a first direction and a second component for producing a second magnetic field oriented in a second direction substantially opposite to the first direction. A channel through the apparatus is defined by the first component and the second component through which the energy beam passes to generate the laser at an output of the apparatus. The apparatus is configurable or controllable for modifying at least one of the first magnetic field and the second magnetic field for tuning the output wavelength of the laser.

The single-use neutron generator includes a plasma confinement device coupled to the power supply and the fuel source and configured to generate a plasma pinch of the neutron-producing fuel. At least one component of the single-use neutron generator is configured for single use.

An apparatus for magnetic field compression includes a plurality of tubes of different dimensions. Each smaller tube extends within a larger tube and each tube includes an electrically conductive material for generating a magnetic field in response to electric current flowing in the conductive material. A longitudinal slot is formed in each tube. The longitudinal slot in each tube is aligned to form an aperture in which the magnetic field is compressed or has a highest magnetic flux in the aperture in response to the electric current flowing in the conductive material of each tube.

A thermal insulation system for an aircraft is provided. The thermal insulation system includes a carrier and a container. The carrier has an interior surface including a first plurality of magnets that generate a first magnetic field, and an exterior surface that is thermally coupled to at least one high temperature component. The container is surrounded by the interior surface of the carrier, has an exterior surface including a second plurality of magnets that generate a second magnetic field oriented opposite the first magnetic field, and has an interior surface that is thermally coupled to at least one temperature sensitive component. The first magnetic field and the second magnetic field generate a gap between the carrier and the container to reduce a heat transfer from the at least one high temperature component to the at least one temperature sensitive component during operation of the aircraft.

A method and apparatus for countering an attack on a platform. Images are received from cameras associated with the platform, and the images are identified from a group of the cameras that have a desired level of information when a group of light sources is directed at a camera system. A fused image is generated from a combination of the images from the group of the cameras and displayed on a display system for the platform. The fused image enables performing an operation using the platform.

A visual obscurant system for obscuring object from an observer having a field of view (FOV) is disclosed. The system comprises a sensor for detecting characteristics that indicate a presence of the object, a light source for emitting light in an electromagnetic spectrum, a source, and a controller. The source releases an obscurant into atmosphere to create a cloud. The obscurant attenuates a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The cloud is positioned within the FOV of the observer so as to obscure the object when the light emitted from the light source is directed towards the cloud. The controller is in communication with at least the sensor and the source. The controller modulates the light source at a frequency sufficient such that the observer interprets the light as being constant when energized.

System for visual obscuration of an object and dissipating energy of a laser weapon

A method and system for a light source detection system, comprising an aircraft carrying at least one camera. The system includes a database for storing information about the aircraft's motion, direction, and position and ground location information, such as the onboard navigation system database or an remotely accessible database. The system also includes a processor that accesses the database and is connected to the camera. The processor uses image analysis and processing techniques to determine the ground location corresponding to the light source from an image of that light captured by the camera. It determines the path traveled by that light and estimates its location as being a pre-selected distance vertically above the ground along the path traveled by the light to the aircraft when the image of the light was captured.

Detecting and locating bright light sources from moving aircraft

Laser amplification utilizing plasma confinement of a gas laser gain media is described. The gas laser gain media is compressed into plasma utilizing a self-reinforcing magnetic field referred to a plasma pinch (e.g., a flow stabilized z-pinch). In the pinch, the gas laser gain media is compressed to a high density, which improves the gain of the media. Coherent light is transmitted through the plasma pinch, which is amplified by the plasma pinch.
