Systems, methods and devices are implemented for microscope imaging solutions. One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed toward an epifluorescence microscope. The microscope includes an image capture circuit including an array of optical sensor. An optical arrangement is configured to direct excitation light of less than about 1 mW to a target object in a field of view of that is at least 0.5 mmand to direct epi-fluorescence emission caused by the excitation light to the array of optical sensors. The optical arrangement and array of optical sensors are each sufficiently close to the target object to provide at least 2.5 μm resolution for an image of the field of view.

Microscopy imaging device with advanced imaging properties

Systems, methods and devices are implemented for microscope imaging solutions. One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed toward an epifluorescence microscope. The microscope includes an image capture circuit including an array of optical sensor. An optical arrangement is configured to direct excitation light of less than about 1 mW to a target object in a field of view of that is at least 0.5 mmand to direct epi-fluorescence emission caused by the excitation light to the array of optical sensors. The optical arrangement and array of optical sensors are each sufficiently close to the target object to provide at least 2.5 &#x3bc;m resolution for an image of the field of view.

Biological tissue such as skeletal and cardiac muscle can be imaged by using an objective-based probe in the tissue and scanning at a sufficiently fast rate to mitigate motion artifacts due to physiological motion. According to one example embodiment, such a probe is part of a system that is capable of reverse-direction high-resolution imaging without needing to stain or otherwise introduce a foreign element used to generate or otherwise increase the sensed light. The probe can include a light generator for generating light pulses that are directed towards structures located within the thick tissue. The system can additionally include aspects that lessen adverse image-quality degradation. Further, the system can additionally be constructed as a hand-held device.

System and method useful for sarcomere imaging via objective-based microscopy

A system and method for monitoring biological parameters in freely moving animals that, in the illustrative embodiment, comprises a two-color optical measurement/recording system that is combined with a fluorescent protein reporter of cellular membrane potentials and a fluorescent protein that is insensitive to such cellular membrane potentials. The two wavelengths are used to un-mix physiological artifacts in recordings that occur in freely moving animals.

Method and apparatus for optical recording of biological parameters in freely moving animals

Imaging, testing and/or analysis of subjects are facilitated with a capillary-access approach. According to an example embodiment, a capillary is implanted into a specimen and adapted to accept an optical probe to facilitate optical access into the specimen. In some applications, the capillary is implanted for use over time, with one or more different probes being inserted into the capillary at different times, while the capillary is implanted. Certain applications involve capillary implantation over weeks, months or longer. Other applications are directed to the passage of fluid to and/or from a sample via the capillary. Still other applications are directed to the passage of electrical information between the sample and an external arrangement, via an implanted capillary.

Optical analysis system and approach therefor

A two-photon imaging system capable of imaging of an image region in real time is presented. The imaging system comprises a source of excitation light that provides the excitation light as a plurality of laser beamlets. The plurality of laser beamlets is collectively scanned by a single-axis scanner along a first direction in the focal plane of the image region and oriented such that neither the rows nor columns are aligned with the first direction. As a result, each laser beamlet scans a different sub-region of the image region and the plurality of sub-regions are simultaneously scanned. As a result, the entirety of the image region is scanned in the same amount of time required to scan one image sub-region.

Multi-photon microscope having an excitation-beam array

Analysis of live beings is facilitated. According to an example embodiment of the present invention, a light-directing arrangement such as an endoscope is mounted to a live being. Optics in the light-directing arrangement are implemented to pass source light (e.g., laser excitation light) into the live being, and to pass light from the live being for detection thereof. The light from the live being may include, for example, photons emitted in response to the laser excitation light (i.e., fluoresced). The detected light is then used to detect a characteristic of the live being.

Live being optical analysis system and approach

A multi-foci laser scanning microscope generates a set of time-multiplexed beams that are simultaneously scanned over multiple scan areas of the sample to be observed. A photodetector array associated with the beams detect fluorescence signals from the sample. A processor processes output signals from the photodetector array based on the time-multiplexing of the beams to provide a much wider field of view and reduced crosstalk between neighboring scan areas for more accurate imaging.

Multi-foci laser scanning microscope and use of same for analyzing samples

Micro-optical imaging is facilitated. According to an example embodiment, a micro-optical probe arrangement includes a GRIN-type lens probe to direct light to and from a specimen. Compensation optics tailored to the probe and aberrations introduced by the lens are located in a light path through the lens, and compensate for the introduced aberrations. A light detector detects light from the specimen, as facilitated by the compensation optics, and generates data characterizing an image of the specimen.

Microendoscopy with corrective optics

A robotic imaging system has at least one robotic imaging arm that includes a free-space optics subsystem. The free-space optics is capable of conveying an excitation light signal through the robotic imaging arm to an optical end effector at the distal end thereof while maintaining coaxial alignment between the optical axis and the robotic skeleton. The free-space optics is also capable of maintaining linear polarization of the light signal.
