A system and method for controlling curl in multi-layer webs. The method can include providing a coated web, curing the coating to form a multi-layer web, and stretching the web during curing of the coating. Some coatings shrink at least partially when cured such that curing the coating induces a strain in the multi-layer web. Stretching the web occurs during curing to induce an opposing strain that at least partially counteracts the strain induced by curing to form a multi-layer web having a desired curvature. The system can include a curing section configured to cure the coating, and can further include a web stretching section, which can be located proximate the curing section and can be substantially coincident with the curing section, such that the web is stretched while the coating is cured.

System and method for controlling curl in multi-layer webs

A diverting roller has a roller body having a longitudinal axis. A plurality of pairs of pulleys are rotatably mounted on the roller body adjacent a circumference of the roller body. An endless belt is looped around each of the pairs of pulleys in such a fashion that each belt has substantial portion oriented in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roller body. The travel of belts around their respective pulleys permits a non-normal angle of incidence of the web to the longitudinal axis. The non-normal angle of incidence and the travel of the belts permit the axial movement of a web of indefinite length material when the web is in contact with belts of the diverting roller. One or more of the diverting rollers may be employed in a system for inverting a moving web of indefinite length material.

Apparatus for deflecting or inverting moving webs

A tail gap winder transfers a web from a first core to a second core by, immediately after the web is cut, pivoting the idler roller to lengthen the distance between the idler roller and the rotating drum to create a gap between the cut ends of the web; removing the first core from the rotating drum surface as the gap passes under the first core location; moving the second core into contact with the rotating drum surface; and winding the incoming cut edge around the second core. The idler roller pivots toward the rotating drum to decrease the distance between the idler roller and rotating drum and to take up the extra length of web during the winding portion of the operating cycle.

A tray is provided for transporting components, such as electronic components. The tray includes a frame and an insert that is releasably secured to the frame. The insert has a plurality of pockets formed therein for storing the components. Inserts having a variety of pocket sizes and arrangements may be secured to frames of a standard size.
