A disposable cartridge for mitigating cross-contamination of fluid sample reagents. The disposable cartridge includes a cartridge body defining a syringe barrel having an barrel port operative to inject and withdraw assay fluids in response to the displacement of a syringe plunger. Furthermore, the disposable cartridge includes a rotor defining a plurality of assay chambers in fluid communication with the barrel port through one of a plurality of rotor ports disposed about the periphery of the rotor. Finally, the disposable cartridge includes a flow control system between the barrel and rotor ports which prevents cross-contamination of fluid sample reagents from one assay chamber to another assay chamber.

Flow control system for diagnostic assay system

A method for inserting and retaining a reagent within a disposable cartridge of a diagnostic assay system. The method includes the steps of: (i) drying a reagent in combination with a carrier, and (ii) inserting the carrier, with the dried reagent, into an open end of one of the assay chambers, wherein the carrier facilitates insertion of the pellet into a chamber without contact by an operator.

A powder capsule loading system and apparatus for preparing and loading a gelatin capsule with a powder product for testing of the product in a magnetometer. The system includes a gelatin capsule which is readily available, such as those used in the pharmaceutical industry, and a sample tool including a handle section and a cup section which includes an aperture sized to receive part of a capsule portion and holds the capsule portion therein by friction fit. Initially, a top portion of the capsule and a bottom portion of the capsule are each received and held on different sample tools. The capsule portions received within the sample tools are dipped into a sample container of powder product to fill the respective portions with the powder product, followed by assembly of the capsule. The assembled capsule containing a substantially predetermined amount of powder therein is then weighed. If the weighed capsule falls within a predetermined range, the sample is then loaded into an adapter on a vibration sample magnetometer designed for receiving the capsule and subsequently tested for magnetic properties. If the sample falls out of the predetermined weight range, the sample is disposed of and the procedure repeats until a satisfactory testing sample is prepared.

A toner cartridge in which a container defines an open ended chamber. The container is adapted to store a supply of toner in the chamber thereof. The open end of the chamber is sealed. A passageway is formed through the toner in the chamber. As the seal is peeled from the open end of the chamber, toner is discharged therefrom. As toner is discharged from the chamber, air displaced from the hopper receiving the toner moves from the hopper through the passageway onto the upper surface of the toner. In this way, displaced air does not impede the flow of toner particles and maintains a substantially uniform pressure on the discharging toner particles.
