Provided is an arrow that includes a shaft, a forward tip affixed to a first end of the shaft, a rear tip affixed on a second end of the shaft, and a plurality of fins. The shaft is formed by extruding a flexible shape-retaining plastic, to provide a thin wall that extends an entire length of the shaft and encloses a hollow.

A dual-footboard scooter in a tricycle format having a front wheel or ski coupled to a steering post passing through a steering column to join a steering handle and a bifurcated frame extending rearwardly from the steering column forms two branches, extensions of which each support a rear wheel or ski, respectively. In operating the scooter, the rider grasps the steering handle, rests one foot on either footboard and swings the other foot extending through the extended free space between the footboards and bifurcated frame, making pushing contact with the ground or snow to propel the scooter.

A dual-footboard scooter in a tricycle format for off-road use on unpaved surfaces, the scooter having a front wheel of large diameter coupled to a steering post passing through a steering column to join a steering handle. A bifurcated frame extending rearwardly from the steering column forms two branches on which are supported parallel footboards and small diameter rear wheels. The front and rear wheels are provided with deep-tread tires affording good traction on unpaved surfaces. In operating the scooter, the rider grasps the steering handle, with one foot then resting on either footboard and the other foot extending through the free space between the footboards and swinging to make pushing contact with the ground to propel the scooter.

A member (e.g. baseball bat) including a switch manually operable to obtain the transmission of signals by a transmitter in the member to an apparatus for propelling an element (e.g. ball) toward an individual holding the member. The element is propelled by a propulsion mechanism in the apparatus toward the individual holding the member so that the individual can practice receiving the element (e.g. hitting the ball). The apparatus propels the element upon the receipt of the transmitted signals and prepares for the next element in the apparatus to be propelled upon a receipt of subsequent signals from the transmitter.

A member (e.g. baseball bat) includes a switch manually operable to obtain the transmission of signals by a transmitter in the member to an apparatus for propelling an element (e.g. ball) toward an individual holding the member. The apparatus includes a receiver for receiving the transmitted signals and includes a housing with a hollow passage. A ramp supported on the housing holds a plurality of the elements for sequential movement into the passage. The element in the passage is supported on one of the fingers of a rotary detainer. The detainer is normally prevented from rotating by a release mechanism coupled to the detainer. The detainer is rotated by the weight of the element when the release mechanism is decoupled from the detainer upon the reception of the transmitted signals. The element then moves downwardly in the passage to a propulsion mechanism which may comprise a pair of rollers for gripping the opposite ends of the element. The rollers are actuated by motors connected in a circuit with a transportable energy source (e.g. battery) so that the motors are energized only when a ball is disposed on a finger in the detainer, thereby prolonging battery life. The element is propelled by the propulsion mechanism toward the individual holding the member so that the individual can practice receiving the element (e.g. hitting the ball). The trajectory of the propelled ball can be adjusted by pivoting the housing relative to a base member which supports the housing and which holds the battery.

A throwing toy is provided that is configured to be held in a user's hand and thrown by the user with the user's hand imparting to the toy during release a spin about the toy's axis. The toy has a head portion and a tail portion adjacent the rear end of the head portion. The tail is configured to be selectively changeable by the user between an extended position wherein at least a part of the tail extends rearward of the head portion along the axis for a tail length and a retracted position wherein the tail length is reduced. The toy has a coupling connected to the head portion which includes a tail control mechanism supporting the tail portion. The control mechanism is configured to allow the user to change the tail between the extended and the retracted positions. The tail control mechanism includes a cylinder installed in the head portion and a piston movable in the cylinder. The tail portion is coupled to the piston and a biasing means urges the tail portion toward one of the extended or retracted positions. A latching mechanism is selectively operable by the user to fix the tail in one of the positions and operable by a user to unlatch the tail from the fixed position. The latching mechanism includes a latch coupled to the tail portion and a clasp coupled to the head portion, wherein the clasp is selectively operable by the user to hold the latch. The latching mechanism further includes a switch disposed within the head portion below an outer surface of the head portion, and the switch is operable by the user by depressing the outer surface of the head portion to release the clasp's hold on the latch.

Throwing toy with retractable tail

A throwing toy is provided which is adapted to be thrown by a user for a flight through the air along a flight path. The toy includes a football-shaped head portion, generally centered about a longitudinal axis, an elongate tail portion extending axially rearward the head portion along the longitudinal axis, and a coupling, which interconnects the head and tail portions and allows the portions to be movable relative to each other, particularly to be rotatably movable about the longitudinal axis. Because the head portion and tail portion can rotate relative to each other, the user can hold the head portion in the hand and throw the toy through the air, imparting a spin to head portion causing it to rotate about its longitudinal axis throughout the flight. At the same time, the tail portion remains substantially fixed throughout the flight with respect to the longitudinal axis because the spin imparted to the head portion is substantially isolated from the tail portion by the rotatable coupling. The coupling includes a shaft and a bearing tube which receives the shaft and substantially locks the shaft in place against movement along the longitudinal axis while allowing rotation about the longitudinal axis. The head portion is fixed about the bearing tube and the tail portion is fixed about the shaft. Head portion is formed of polyurethane foam directly around the bearing tube by holding the bearing tube in a mold and injecting and curing the foam around the bearing tube. The in-flight football realizes the benefits of spiraling, namely, accuracy and stability. Simultaneously, the non-spinning fins provide stabilizing and gliding effects, further augmenting the flight-enhancement provided by spiraling. The fins do so without the resistance or turbulence inherent in spinning fins.

A light-weight, air-pressurized baseball bat useable by children to strike a ball, the bat having an enhanced striking power. The bat comprises striker and handle sections joined together by a coupler. The striker section is defined by a shell of synthetic plastic material whose shape is similar to that of a standard two-liter soda bottle. The shell is adapted to envelop a charge of compressed air and is provided with a half neck in which a valve plug is installed whose inlet projects therefrom. The handle section is provided at its upper end with a half neck that complements that of the striker section, the two-half necks being clamped together by the coupler which has a port therein to accommodate the valve inlet. By injecting compressed air into the striker section through the valve, the compressed air enveloped by the shell functions as a trampoline which when the ball impinges on the shell then acts to boost the rebound of the ball, thereby enhancing the striking power of the bat.

A dual-footboard scooter in a tricycle format, the front wheel of the scooter being coupled to a steering post passing through a steering column to join a steering handle provided with a hand brake operatively coupled to the front wheel. A pair of parallel footboards are attached at their front ends to a bifurcated frame extending rearwardly from the steering column. Secured to the underside of each footboard is a rear end wheel behind which is a skid brake adapted to engage the ground only when the footboard is upwardly tilted. In operating the scooter, the rider grasps the steering handle, one foot then resting on either one of the footboards, the other foot extending through the space between the footboards to make pushing contact with the ground to propel the scooter forward. Should the scooter jump in the course of travel and in doing so raise the front wheel above ground and cause the footboards to become upwardly inclined, the scooter then seeks to swing backward about the rear wheels and thereby endanger the rider. The action is avoided by the rear skid brakes which then engage the ground to cause the scooter to swing forward to return the front wheel to the ground.

A basketball goal for indoor play in an area bounded by a wall having an access door set therein, the height of the goal being adjustable to a desired elevation. The goal includes a hoop from which a net is suspended, the hoop being supported on a fixture attached to the front section of a pantograph whose rear section is provided with a mounting bracket that hitches onto the upper edge of the door, whereby the hoop projects outwardly from the wall in a horizontal plane. The pantograph is angularly adjustable to raise or lower the front section thereof with respect to the rear section while maintaining these sections in parallel relation whereby the hoop may be set to an elevation suitable for play.

An air-pulse powered arrow shooting toy set provided with at least one soft arrow whose shaft is formed of resilient, flexible foam material, the rear section of the shaft having an axial bore so that the arrow is slidable onto a launching tube which then extends into the bore. Coupled to the tube is an air gun which, when cocked and then fired, produces a compressed air pulse which is delivered to the launching tube to shoot off the arrow. The air gun includes a barrel having a piston slidable therein which is attached to a piston rod that extends out of one end of the barrel to join a handle. Surrounding the piston rod between the one end of the barrel and the piston is a compressible helical spring. A hand grip attached to the barrel is provided with a spring-biased trigger having a latching finger which when the trigger is inactive extends into a slot in the barrel. In operation, the player first pulls the handle to cause the piston to advance toward the one end of the barrel until it is engaged and latched by the latching finger, the spring then being compressed and the gun being cocked. To fire the gun, the player actuates the trigger to unlatch the piston which then is driven by the expanding spring toward the other end of the barrel to produce a compressed air pulse that is delivered to the launching tube.
