Embodiments of a lamp that utilizes a reflector and a light source with light-emitting diode (LED) devices to generate an optical intensity distribution substantially similar to that of a conventional incandescent light bulb. These embodiments utilize an operation configuration with parameters that define relationships between components of the lamp to generate the optical intensity distribution. These parameters can, in one example, set out the position of the reflector relative to the light source as well as the ratio between dimensions of the reflector and the light source. In one embodiment, the reflector is in position relative to the light source to form a blocking area proximate the light source that defines a part of the lamp that does not diffuse light.

Reflector and lamp comprised thereof

An optical element for transmission of light produced by a solid state emitter includes at least one diffuser element, and a reflector supported by the at least one diffuser element and paced-apart from the emitter, the reflector defining an annular lip having an aperture therein and an axis normal to a plane defined by the aperture. The reflector further includes a first frustoconical surface coupled with the annular lip and angling outwardly in a first direction at a first angle relative to the axis, a second frustoconical surface coupled to the first frustoconical surface and angled outwardly at a second angle in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a third surface coupled with the second frustoconical surface and angling outwardly at a third angle.

Provided is a method including determining a first incident angle at which light from a light source will impinge on a first thin-film reflective stack of a planned first reflector for a lighting system. The method also includes determining a second incident angle at which light from the light source will impinge on a second thin-film reflective stack of a planned second reflector for the lighting system. The method further includes designing, using a processor executing a software package, the first reflector, comprising tuning a reflective characteristic of the first thin-film reflective stack as a function of the first incident angle determined, and designing, using the processor executing the software package, the second reflector, comprising tuning a reflective characteristic of the second thin-film reflective stack as a function of the second incident angle determined.

Method and system for an electronically adaptive photometry for roadway lighting

Provided is a multi-layer reflective coating for application to a lighting housing assembly, including a polymer substrate adjacent a polymer base coat layer applied to the lighting housing. Atop the polymer base coat layer is an aluminum adhesion layer, followed by a diffusive barrier layer, and a silver reflective layer. The aluminum adhesion layer promotes adhesion between the polymer base coat layer and the silver reflective layer. The diffusive barrier layer prevents aluminum and silver interaction, which could form a silver and aluminum alloy. A spectrum tunable layer is applied atop the silver reflective layer for spectrum tuning the silver reflective layer for maximum compatibility with a light emitting diode (LED) lighting source.

Hybrid metallization on plastic for a light emitting diode (LED) lighting system

A lighting apparatus includes a bilaterally symmetrical light engine comprising first and second light emitting diode (LED) devices or planar LED device arrays facing opposite directions, and an envelope including phosphor spaced apart from and surrounding the bilaterally symmetrical light engine. The phosphor is effective to convert light emitted by the light engine to emission light. The bilaterally symmetrical light engine may be configured to emit light having a bilaterally symmetrical intensity distribution that is uniform except at emission angles within 10&#xb0; of the symmetry plane of the bilaterally symmetrical light engine. Each of the first and second LED devices or planar LED device arrays may comprise at least one hemispherically emitting LED device including an LED chip and an encapsulant encapsulating the LED chip and shaped to refract light emitted by the LED chip into a uniform distribution over a hemispherical solid angle.

LED roadway luminaire

An illumination apparatus includes a linear array of light emitting diode (LED) chips disposed on a support. A linear reflector assembly has a light coupling reflector portion and a one dimensional light collimation or focusing portion. The linear reflector assembly is secured to the support parallel with the linear array of LED chips. An encapsulant is disposed in the light coupling reflector portion of the linear reflector assembly and pots the LED chips. An elongate phosphor element is disposed over the encapsulant such that the light coupling reflector portion and the encapsulant enhance light coupling between the LED chips and the elongate phosphor element, and the one-dimensional light collimation or focusing portion one-dimensionally collimates or focuses light emitted by the combination of the LED chips and the elongate phosphor element.

Directional linear light source

A signal is described that includes one or more LEDs that emit light and a lens that receives and collimates the light from the LED array. A distribution optic receives light from the collimating lens and distributes the light in a predetermined pattern according to a specification. A light absorbing/reflecting element is located in an area proximate the one or more LEDs to minimize light received from an external source from exiting the signal.
