An apparatus and method for inspecting the quality of a Nd-YAG laser beam after encountering an optic in a laser marking machine is provided. The apparatus includes a bezel that houses a filter medium that significantly increases the visible power intensity between the threshold-of-visibility to the point of saturation of a beam when viewed with an infrared electroviewer. The apparatus of the present invention is held in the path of the laser beam, and the beam is inspected with an infrared electroviewer. Occlusions in the power range of the beam found between the increased range of threshold-of-visibility to saturation point caused by imperfections in the optics can then be seen with an infrared electroviewer.

Infrared laser beam viewing apparatus

A method for laser marking semiconductor wafers wherein marking errors attributable to the laser marking tool are measured for each of the anticipated marking fields. A weighted average error is then calculated, and a correction based thereon is entered into the control mechanism of the laser marking tool. The method of the invention reduces downtime between jobs by eliminating the need to recalibrate the laser marking tool between jobs.

Method for marking workpieces

Method and apparatus for aligning objects involve oppositely directed light beams that originate approximately between the objects and are directed toward the objects. Based on a relative position of the light beams to the objects, the objects are moved into a desired position. The oppositely directed light beams can be coaxial, parallel but not coaxial, or transverse.

Dual beam alignment device and method

An alignment cross hair apparatus for partially eclipsing a laser beam includes a laser generator that emits a laser beam. A frame includes a pair of members that cross one another at an intersection within the frame. The frame is attachable to the laser generator in such a manner that the intersection of the members is within the laser beam so that the laser beam is partially eclipsed by the pair of members.

A two-stage filter unit utilizing coarse and fine filter media in series, with the coarse filter media being detachable from a housing containing the fine filter media, the filter being especially suitable for filtration of cooling air taken in by electronic equipment.
