A generator assembly for a high temperature environment that exceeds a seal temperature limit in operation can include a generator housing enclosing one or more generator components and one or more attached components sealed to the housing. The assembly can include one or more seals disposed between each of the one or more attached components and the generator housing and an oil circuit within the housing configured to circulate oil. The assembly can include one or more oil spray orifices within the housing and in fluid communication with the oil circuit. Each of the one or more oil spray orifices can be directed at an interior portion of the one or more attached components and/or an interior housing area adjacent the one or more attached components to provide oil spray thereto for cooling each of the one or more seals to maintain the one or more seals below the seal temperature limit.

Seal cooling systems

A terminal assembly of an electric machine includes an electric machine housing including a terminal opening defined in the electric machine housing. A conductive terminal extends through the terminal opening, from an inside of the electric machine housing to an outside of the electric machine housing. An insulator is located at the terminal. The insulator is positioned between the terminal and a housing wall of the terminal opening. The insulator is sized and configured for installation into the terminal opening after installation of the terminal in the terminal opening.

Aircraft engines include an engine housing, a core assembly arranged within the engine housing and comprising an engine shaft arranged axially within the engine housing extending in a forward-aftward direction, and a tail cone assembly attached to an aft end of the engine housing. The tail cone assembly includes a tail cone housing and an aircraft machine arranged within the tail cone housing the aircraft machine comprising a rotor shaft. An input shaft is configured between the engine shaft and the rotor shaft and a rotor coupling configured to sealing connect the rotor shaft and the input shaft, the rotor coupling configured to providing sealing engagement between the rotor shaft and the input shaft during at least one of relative axial displacement and relative radial displacement between the rotor shaft and the input shaft.

Aircraft tail cone mounted generators

A silicon-on-insulator substrate includes: (1) a high-resistivity base layer including silicon and a trap-rich region including arsenic diffused within a first side of the high-resistivity base layer, wherein the trap-rich region has a thickness that is in a range of 1 to 10 microns and a trap density that is in a range of 0.8*10cmeVto 1.2*10cmeV, wherein the high-resistivity base layer has resistivity in a range of 50 to 100 ohm-meters and a thickness in a range of 500 to 700 microns; (2) a silicon dioxide layer positioned on the first side of the high-resistivity base layer and having a thickness that is in a range of 1000 to 5000 angstroms; and (3) a transfer layer positioned on the silicon dioxide layer, wherein the transfer layer comprises a silicon wafer having a thickness that is a range of 500 to 5000 angstroms.

Silicon-on-insulator substrate including trap-rich layer and methods for making thereof

An engine system can include an engine having an engine shaft and a transmission that can include an input shaft connected to the engine shaft to rotate with the engine shaft, one or more rotating gears configured to rotate relative to the input shaft, and a synchromesh configured to selectively engage each of the one or more rotating gears to the input shaft. Transmission can include a second shaft comprising a clutch configured to selectively engage the one or more rotating gears to the second shaft to cause the second shaft to rotate with the one or more rotating gears.

Transmission systems having clutch at output side

A jet engine includes a housing, an intake portion leading into the housing, and an exhaust portion leading from the housing. The exhaust portion includes an exhaust duct and a tail cone arranged radially inwardly of the exhaust duct. An engine portion is arranged in the housing between the intake portion and the exhaust portion. A generator is arranged in the tail cone and is operatively connected to the engine portion. A drive shaft extends from the engine portion to the generator. The drive shaft includes a first end coupled to the engine portion, a second end connected to the generator, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween. The intermediate portion includes a cooling passage that extends from the second end toward a terminal end that terminates short of the first end of the drive shaft.

Tail cone mounted generator input shaft for an aircraft

A hydraulic clutch assembly can include a shaft defining a shaft channel, one or more hydraulic ports defined through the shaft, and one or more lubrication holes defined through the shaft. A porting manifold can be disposed at least partially within the shaft channel. The porting manifold can include a control pressure path in fluid communication with the one or more hydraulic ports and a lubrication flow path in fluid communication with the one or more lubrication holes. The control pressure path and the lubrication path can be fluidly isolated in the porting manifold.

Hydraulic clutch assemblies

A multispeed turbomachine transmission can include an input shaft and a plurality of input shaft gears disposed on the input shaft. The transmission can include one or more clutch shafts, one or more clutch shaft input gears disposed on the one or more clutch shafts, each meshed with at least one of the plurality of input shaft gears, at least one clutch shaft output gear mounted to each clutch shaft, a clutch connected to each clutch shaft and configured to selectively connect the one or more clutch shaft input gears to the at least one clutch shaft output gear. The transmission can include an output shaft and at least one output shaft gear connected to the output shaft and meshed with the at least one clutch shaft output gear.

Multispeed transmission

A system for axially retaining two coaxial components includes an inner component having an annular compression groove formed in a radially outer surface thereof, an outer component having an annular engagement groove formed in a radially inner surface thereof, and a split retaining ring installed in the annular compression groove of the inner component, wherein the split retaining ring is adapted for movement between a radially compressed condition to facilitate axial engagement of the inner component within the outer component and a radially expanded condition to facilitate radial engagement of the split retaining ring in the annular engagement groove of the outer component, so that the inner and outer components are axially locked together.

System and method for axially retaining two coaxial shaft components

A wet clutch assembly can include a clutch pack having a plurality of friction members attached to a first clutch housing and a plurality of separator members attached to a second clutch housing. The friction members and the separator members can be configured to be selectively contacted to each other to engage the first housing member to the second housing member. The clutch pack can be in fluid communication with a lubrication source such that a lubrication flow can flow to the friction members and the separator members to remove heat and/or debris therefrom.

Wet clutch assemblies

A retaining ring configured to retain a shaft to a sleeve to fix the shaft rotationally and axially to the sleeve can include a first portion configured to install around the shaft and within the sleeve. The first portion can include one or more first curved sections and at least one first portion flat. The retaining ring can include a second portion configured to install around the shaft and moveable relative to the first portion, the second portion comprising one or more second curved sections and at least one second portion flat. The first portion flat can be defined between a plurality of the first curved sections, and wherein the second portion flat can be defined between a plurality of the second curved sections, for example.

Disclosed is a transmission, including: an input shaft; an output shaft; a gear system connected between the input shaft and the output shaft, the gear system including: a first epicyclical gear set that includes a first ring gear coupled to the input shaft, a first sun gear, a first planetary gear set, and a first planetary carrier connected to the first planetary gear set; and a second epicyclical gear set that includes a second ring gear, a second sun gear, a second planetary gear set, and a second planetary carrier connected to the second planetary gear set, wherein: the input shaft is coupled to the first ring gear and the second planetary carrier; and the first planetary carrier is coupled to the second ring gear; and clutches that engage the first epicyclical gear set and the second epicyclical gear set, the clutches shifting the transmission to generate overlapping transmission speeds.

Coupled planetary gearbox

A power transmission includes an input shaft, an output shaft, and a plurality of gear ratios selectably engagable with the input shaft and the output shaft to transfer rotational energy from the input shaft to the output shaft to drive the output shaft at a selected output shaft speed. A plurality of clutches, each clutch is located at a clutch lay shaft of a plurality of clutch lay shafts and is configured to control selective engagement of only one gear ratio of the plurality of gear ratios.

Disclosed is a transmission having: an input shaft configured to rotationally communicate with a gas turbine engine; an output shaft configured to rotationally communicate with an aircraft accessory; and a gear system connected between the input shaft and the output shaft, the gear system including: a plurality of clutches that are axially aligned and radially offset, the plurality of clutches configured to engage in parallel the output shaft and shift the transmission to generate a plurality gear speeds; and a plurality of pistons that are configured to engage the respective plurality of clutches, the plurality of pistons being hydraulically controlled and adapted to receive fluid from a respective plurality of ports in the output shaft.
