A method for detecting a burner failure in a gas turbine engine that has a combustor and a turbine disposed downstream of the combustor. The combustor has a plurality of burners arranged annularly. The method includes providing a plurality of temperature sensors arranged annularly at an outlet of the turbine; obtaining a plurality of temperature signals from the plurality of temperature sensors; determining a plurality of validated temperature signals from the plurality of temperature signals; determining a temperature focus at least based on the plurality of validated temperature signals; improving the temperature focus such that the temperature focus is within a tolerance range; and performing at least one hazard protection action at least when the temperature focus crosses a predetermined threshold.

Method for detecting burner failure

A blower system for a gas turbine engine comprising: a rotor assembly, an airframe port and a routing-control valve. The rotor assembly is configured to be mechanically coupled to a spool of the gas turbine engine. The airframe port is configured to receive and discharge air to an airframe system. The routing-control valve comprises: a primary channel for bidirectional flow between the rotor assembly and the airframe port; a primary valve member configured to open and close the primary channel; and an auxiliary channel branched from the primary channel. The auxiliary channel is configured to bypass the primary valve member for: a first auxiliary flow from the airframe port to the rotor assembly; or a second auxiliary flow for purging air from the rotor assembly to a discharge port. The blower system is configured to operate in an engine drive mode and in a blower mode.

Blower system for bidirectional flow

An apparatus, for example for a pitch change mechanism, includes a cylinder having a magnetic portion defining an annular array of features extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder, the cylinder rotating in use and able to translate longitudinally. There is a sensing arrangement including a stationary magnetised core and two coils connected in series and wound around the core. In use, the cylinder rotates and current is induced in the coils. Monitoring equipment is arranged to calculate rotational speed of the cylinder from the frequency of the current and to calculate longitudinal position from the relative amplitude of the current in each coil. Axial displacement and rotational speed monitoring

A mechanical arrangement for an engine having two propeller stages, including: a first epicyclic gear stage including a sun gear, a planet gear, a planet carrier and an annulus, wherein the sun gear is driven by a shaft of the engine, the planet carrier is stationary and thereby permits static structure to be located there through, and the annulus outputs torque and/or drive; a second epicyclic gear stage including a second sun gear, a second planet gear, a second planet carrier and a second annulus, wherein the second sun gear is driven by the annulus of the first epicyclic gear stage and is annular to accommodate the static structure, the second planet carrier includes the output to one of the propeller stages and the second annulus includes the output to the other of the propeller stages; wherein the static structure provides mounting for static components on one or both sides of each epicyclic gear stage.
