A dynamic human machine interface system includes a mission commander application (MCA) unit including a control processor, the MCA active on one vehicle of a plurality of mission member vehicles, the MCA unit in communication with a data store, the control processor accessing executable instructions that cause the control processor to direct operations of components of the MCA unit, an alternate scenario evaluation unit accessing at least one of mission parameter records and flight member data records in the data store to recalculate mission parameters, a dynamic video interface unit to render the recalculated mission parameters on a mission control dashboard (MCD), the MCD presented to the mission commander on a display unit of the one vehicle, the MCD including a plurality of display pane areas selectable by a user interaction with an interactive interface, and each display area configurable by the user interaction to change content of the display pane.

An aircraft display and control system generally includes a processor, a cursor control and selection device, a multifunction keyboard, an aeronautical information database, a geographic database, and a plurality of display devices. Users, such as an aircraft pilot and copilot, can perform flight plan entry and modification by manipulating graphical and textual information on the display devices using the cursor control device and the multifunction keyboard. In one embodiment, the present invention provides an interface to flight deck information systems that is intuitive and easy to use, and which enables flight crew members to easily and effectively enter and modify data displayed by the aircraft flight deck, substantially centralizes avionics controls within one controller, and decreases flight crew 'heads-down' time.

A display system according to various aspects of the present invention provides systems and methods for an integrated graphical user interface which facilitates the interactive and dynamic display aircraft data. In accordance with various aspects of the present invention, a user (e.g., a pilot) provides input to a processor and receives visual feedback via a display produced by one or more monitors. The display includes various graphical elements according to the operator's commands and a predetermined set of rules. By adjusting the information on the display, the user may view the desired information according to the operator's current needs and interests.

In one embodiment, the present invention allows multiple members of an aircraft crew to share control of common flight information display areas, aids the crew's situational awareness by providing software-implemented dynamic symbology and highlighting to indicate cursor location, current panel of entry, and current focus for keyboard and cursor events.

A primary flight display (PFD) for an aircraft generating a 3-dimensional (3D) symbology indicative of the aircraft situational information. The 3D symbology includes a 3D vertical path error symbol and a 3D lateral flight path error symbol. Several 3D altitude symbols are also displayed which collectively render a 3D representation of the aircraft situation. The 3D symbology enhances the pilot's awareness of the aircraft situation to accurately control the aircraft, and to easily to monitor the performance during manual and automatic flight.

A method and apparatus for displaying real time navigational information on a vehicle including an informational database which is loaded and stored on an electronic medium within the vehicle. An intermediate database is created from the informational database and stored on the electronic medium. The contents of the intermediate database are transmitted to a color display unit for continuous real time display to the vehicle's operator based upon a desired reference point. In one embodiment, the intermediate database is created by fusing preselected information from the informational database and projecting the preselected information to correspond to a common graphical coordinate axis. In another embodiment, the intermediate database is created by each intermediate database created by spatially and coordinately culling the informational database to obtain spatial data stored on the electronic medium, filtering the spatial data by the software means to obtain displayable data corresponding to a geographic vicinity of a desired reference point and projecting the displayable data to a mapping system which contains a common graphical coordinate axis based upon the desired reference point.

Method and apparatus for displaying real time navigational information

An aircraft Flight Management System (FMS) simultaneously displaying FMS navigation data and geographically referenced bitmap data charts. The bitmap data charts are properly registered with the various FMS navigation data to achieve proper registration of the data. A common distance algorithm, known as Sedonos Equations, are utilized to determine the distance of each data point with reference to a map center position, such as the current position of the aircraft, a waypoint or a map corner. The system and technique allows for an arbitrary number of bitmapped data charts to be tiled, overlapped, rotated and scaled. The latitude and longitude coordinates of each data point, as well as the corners of the charts, are utilized to determine the distance of the various data points from the aircraft to achieve proper registration when simultaneously displayed.
