A method for providing increased sector-to-sector isolation when transmitting data between a plurality of Fourier transform matrices, each having an input Fourier transform matrix (FTM), an output FTM, and a plurality of transmit paths therebetween is disclosed. The method includes applying a tone to one of the plurality of transmit paths so that a correlated output can be produced, measuring an output of the output FTM, correlating the output of the output FTM against the tone applied to produce a correlated output, adjusting a phase of the transmit path such that a direct current value of the correlated output is minimized, and adjusting an attenuation of the transmit path such that the direct current of the correlated output is minimized.

Method and apparatus for improving sector to sector isolation in a Fourier transform matrix system

RF power device module () having an RF power device chip () which integrates an RF power device () with at least one of DC detector circuits (), RF detector circuits (), and thermal detector circuit () which cooperate with optical emitter/detector components () that supports a bi-directional optical link () made through free space with diagnostic processing and control circuits implemented on a separate chip () mounted within the same enclosure (). The bi-directional optical link () enables interpretation of detection signals () received from the RF power device chip () and the feed back of default or other management and control signals () sent back to the RF power device chip () in response to the detected and analyzed conditions. The RF power device module () can be used in RF power transistors, such used in a base station, or mobile or portable transmitters, used in telecommunications, or in RF power amplifiers and instrumentation amplifiers in general.

A semiconductor die may include a reference Field Effect Transistor (FET) integrated on the semiconductor die and coupled to an amplifier integrated on the semiconductor die. A feed forward amplifier performs a carrier cancellation tuning process separate from an IM reduction tuning process, wherein the carrier cancellation tuning process is performed without reference modulations that are utilized to modulate a feed forward amplifier input signal during the IM reduction tuning process. By decoupling the reference modulations during the carrier cancellation process, the feed forward amplifier is able to eliminate the instantaneous carrier cancellation degradation that would otherwise be caused by the reference modulations.

Method and apparatus for reduction of distortion in a feed forward amplifier

A feed forward amplifier (200) comprises a main signal path (201), an error signal path (203), and a third signal path (205). In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the third signal path (205) comprises a gain and phase adjuster (245), delay circuitry (249), summing circuitry (251), and an error cancellation detector (255). The third signal path (205) is designed to match passive components in a component section (207) of the main signal path (201) to the error signal path (203). Gain and phase adjustments are made by the gain and phase adjuster (235) to minimize the RSSI of the error components within the input signal (253). Because passive components in the third signal path (205) are matched to those of the component assembly (207) in the main signal path (201), the minimization of RSSI of the error components within the input signal (253) results in a properly phase and gain adjusted error signal (243) for maximum error cancellation, without utilizing a pilot-tone generator utilized within prior art error cancellation techniques.

A feed-forward amplifier (600) has an error path (123) replaced by a feed-forward amplifier (603) in a nested feed-forward configuration. By replacing the error path (123) with the feed-forward amplifier (603), design parameters such as efficiency and power output which are difficult to achieve with the conventional error path (123) are easily achieved with the single loop feed-forward amplifier (603). In this configuration, the main path (613) of the feed-forward amplifier (603) is capable of operating in a more efficient Class AB mode while still operating over a large dynamic range with to provide a relatively constant gain/phase relationship, thus insuring good intermodulation performance. The error path (627) of the feed-forward amplifier (603) must still be biased Class A, but it's requirements are much less than those of a Class A error amplifier (124) in an un-nested configuration.

A method is offered of automatically beamforming a radio frequency transmitter having an array antenna. The beamformed signal is transmitted for the benefit of a target communication unit based upon characteristics of a received signal. The method includes the steps of determining a transmit equalizer transfer function and receive equalizer transfer function for each array element of the antenna array based, at least in part, upon application of common input signals and comparison of outputs. The method further includes adaptively filtering a received signal, from a communication unit based, at least in part, upon the determined receive equalizer weights, to provide a receive beamform array. A beamformed signal may then be transmitted to the communication unit based upon the transmit equalizer weights and receive beamform array.

A load pull isolation switch for a signal source is discolsed which substantially eliminates the effects of load pull caused by a variable impedance load when selectively coupled and decoupled to a signal source. By judiciously choosing the timing criteria for activating the isolation switch, convention load pull isolation stages are eliminated. In another embodiment, the load pull isolation switch is disclosed as incorporated in a mobile radio having a fast locking synthesizer. The timing of the operation of the isolation switch is controlled by a microprocessor-controller which not only handles data and control functions for the mobile radio, but also has the necessary method steps incorporated as software within the microprocessor-controller. Such an arrangement is useful for sending voice or data as in a time division multiplex system.

Coupled transmission line resonators, such as those in a solid-dielectric ceramic block filter, are fabricated with tuning regions formed by notches in the outer conductor extending longitudinally parallel with the inner conductors from both the low-impedance ends and the high-impedance ends of the resonators. Removing conductive material from the notches in the vicinity of the low-impedance ends of the resonators decreases their resonant frequencies; removing conductive material from the notches in the vicinity of their high-impedance ends increases their resonant frequencies. Sensitivity of tuning depends on the depth of the notches. By situating all tuning regions along a common side of a filter, tuning both higher and lower in frequency may be accomplished without a need to re-orient the filter in a production-line fixture.
