An insulation dam is provided that facilitates placement and retention of loosefill insulation over a duct. Additionally, a depth indicator is provided that facilitates placement of a proper depth of the loosefill insulation over the duct.

An exemplary duct system includes a rigid duct member, a first duct connector connected to the rigid duct member, a first sealing member disposed between the rigid duct member and the first duct connector, a flexible duct, a second duct connector connected to the flexible duct, and a second sealing member disposed between the first duct connector and the second duct connector. The first duct connector is assembled to the second duct connector to compress the second sealing member and form a seal between the first duct connector and the second duct connector and thereby form a seal between the rigid duct member and the flexible duct.

A building construction has a foundation, walls and a roof structure, the walls being wrapped by a reinforcement fabric, with the reinforcement fabric being connected to the foundation and the roof structure to tie the roof structure to the foundation for increased resistance to natural disasters. The connection of the reinforcement fabric to the roof structure includes a top rail having a connector plate attached to the roof structure and having an upwardly oriented opening, and a wrapping member about which the reinforcement fabric can be wrapped, the wrapping member having a geometry corresponding with the geometry of the upwardly oriented opening in such a manner that the wrapping member is prevented from rotating in the opening.

A jamb extender for extending extend the jamb of the window is provided. The jamb extender includes a base member, two arm members projecting orthogonally from same side of the base member, and projecting members extending perpendicularly from the end of the arms towards an opposing end of the base member. The jamb extender has a unibody construction and is preferably formed of vinyl or polyvinylchloride. The jamb extender can be used in a jamb extension assembly that includes a lineal trim holder and a trim member. The jamb extender is positioned such that a portion of the base member is adjacent to the base wall and the projecting members are adjacent to the mounting portion of the lineal trim holder to extend the jamb of the window. A decorative trim member is mounted in the trim mounting portion. A method of trimming a window opening is also provided.

A construction beam includes a pair of lateral members and a resilient web extending therebetween, so as to present a cross-sectional profile corresponding to commonly used construction beam members (e.g., 2&Prime;&times;4&Prime; or 2&Prime;&times;6&Prime;). The resilience of the web helps to attenuate sound transmission through the beam from one lateral member to the other. In particular, in a wall frame, the lateral members are mounted at opposite ends thereof to end plates consisting of other construction beams according to the present invention (i.e., a pair of lateral members with resilient web extending therebetween).
