In various embodiments, a process for configuring or commissioning a solar power system includes receiving, at a controller, hardware identifiers of a plurality of power electronics modules to be configured. Each of the plurality of power electronics modules of at least a portion of the plurality of power electronics modules is associated with a corresponding photovoltaic panel. A hub is configured to wirelessly communicate with the plurality of power electronics modules. The controller is physically connected to the hub and communicates with the hub via wiring that also carries power from photovoltaic panels to an inverter. The process includes configuring, by the controller, the plurality of power electronics modules using the received hardware identifiers.

An energy storage assembly includes a vertical stack of substantially planar modules. Each module comprises a plurality of energy storage components and a thermally conductive shell comprising a shell top, a shell bottom, shell sides, a shell front, and a shell rear.

A power converter is used to generate a measurement-related AC signal. At a battery, the measurement-related AC signal is received and the measurement-related AC signal is responded to. Battery state information associated with the battery responding to the measurement-related AC signal is received. A battery health metric is determined based at least in part on the battery state information.

An inverter subsystem that includes a direct current (DC) bus, a DC terminal, and a power storage interface that is configured to be connected to power storage. A water heater auxiliary heating system includes a heat pump. It further includes a first tap to circulate water from a water tank to a heat exchanger within the heat pump. The water tank stores excess energy that is generated locally at the site energy system.

A common reference signal is used by a plurality of serially-connected power optimizers to manage a plurality of photovoltaic panels. It is determined whether an individual voltage output exceeds an individual limit. If so, a corresponding photovoltaic panel in the plurality of photovoltaic panels is adjusted to reduce the individual voltage output and the combined voltage output, where the combined voltage output is based at least in part on (a) the individual voltage output and (2) at least one other individual voltage output associated with another power optimizer. It is determined whether the combined voltage output relative to the common reference signal exceeds a maximum offset. If so, the corresponding photovoltaic panel in the plurality of photovoltaic panels is adjusted to reduce the individual voltage output and the combined voltage output.

A controllable main breaker includes a main breaker sized to fit within an existing panel slot of an electrical panel. The main breaker comprises a trigger to open the main breaker in response to a thermal fault or overcurrent event. The controllable main breaker further includes an auxiliary shell sized to fit within at least one adjacent breaker slot. The auxiliary shell includes a controllable actuator that mechanically opens the main breaker.

A rapid shutdown system includes a PV (photovoltaic) generator. It further includes a DC (Direct Current)-DC converter receiving power from the PV generator and outputting power. The DC-DC converter outputs power at a high voltage state or a low voltage state. It further includes a DC bus coupled to the DC-DC converter to receive the power outputted by the DC-DC converter. The DC bus is coupled to a system comprising a load. The DC-DC converter transitions from the high voltage state to the low voltage state based at least in part on an output current of the DC-DC converter transitioning below a threshold.

An energy storage system includes an energy storage component. It further includes heat generating electronics. It further includes a fluid circulator that transfers fluid between the energy storage component and the heat generating electronics. The circulator is controlled to alternatively transfer fluid from the battery to the heat generating electronics or from the heat generating electronics to the energy storage component based at least in part on a thermal state of the energy storage system.
