The present disclosure provides high density polyethylene resins having good low temperature impact resistance. The resins are suitable for use in rotomolding application for large parts. The resin is a bi- or trimodal resin produced using solution phase polymerization in the presence of a single site catalyst.

High density rotomolding resin

The present disclosure provides a resin suitable for use in rotational molding having an environmental stress crack resistance of greater than 1000 hours. The resin has a density from 0.937 to 0.942 g/cm, a melt index Idetermined according to ASTM D 1238 (2.16 kg/190&#xb0; C.&#x2014;I) from 4.0 to 7.0 g/10 min, an Idetermined according to ASTM D 1238 (21.6 kg/190&#xb0; C.&#x2014;I) from 160 to 200 g/10 min, an I/Ifrom 30 to 40 and a terminal vinyl unsaturation greater than 0.06, per 1000 carbon atoms; and a primary structure parameter (PSP2) of from 4 to 7, and an overall Mw/Mn from 2.7 to 3.5 comprising from 2 to 5 weight % of one or more Calpha olefin comonomers.

Enhanced ESCR bimodal rotomolding resin

Resins suitable for rotomolded articles comprise a bimodal polyethylene copolymer comprising from 0.1 to 5 weight % of one or more Calpha olefins and the balance ethylene, comprising from 20 to 50 weight % of a higher molecular weight polymer component having an Mw greater than 120,000 and correspondingly from 80 to 50 weight % of a lower molecular weight polymer component having an Mw less than 100,000 having a density greater than 0.942 g/cc [but less than 0.965 g/cc] and a bent strip ESCR as determined by ASTM D 1693 in 100% Igepal&#xae; CO-630 (ethoxylated nonylphenols) for conditions A and B of greater than 1000 hours. The resulting articles have a very good balance of properties and significant ESCR.
