In various embodiments, the present disclosure provides wet rotating disc engagement systems, e.g., a wet brake systems and/or wet clutch systems, for mobile platforms and/or stationary platforms, wherein the system comprises a plurality of first heat pipes having evaporator ends disposed within a plurality of first discs of the wet rotating disc engagement system and/or a plurality of second heat pipes having evaporator ends disposed within a plurality of second discs of the wet rotating disc engagement system. Additionally, condenser ends of the first and/or second heat pipes are disposed within oil retained within an oil reservoir of the wet rotating disc engagement system.

Heat pipe cooled wet rotating disc engagement systems

A radial vent composite heat pipe system for cooling and increasing the power density of an electrical machine is provided. The system comprises a plurality of radial vent composite heat pipe assemblies each comprising a slot portion thermally connected to a vent portion. The slot portions are disposable within respective stator slots of a stator core pack of a stator assembly of the electrical machine. The vent portions are disposable within stator vents of the stator assembly. The slot portions absorb heat from the stator coils of the stator assembly and transfer the absorbed heat to the vent portions. The vent portions reject the transferred heat into a cooling air flowing through the respective stator vent, thereby rapidly transferring heat from the respective stator coil to the cooling air flowing through stator vent, and thereby greatly increasing the power density of the electrical machine.

Radial vent composite heat pipe

A motor that includes a motor portion structured to house a stator and a rotor mounted to a shaft of the motor. The motor additionally includes a cooling portion disposed adjacent to the motor portion and separated from the motor portion by a structural interface. The cooling portion provides a cooling chamber structured to have a cooling fluid passed therethrough via a cooling fluid moving device that is structured to be coupled to and driven by the motor shaft. Furthermore, the motor includes a plurality of heat pipes having evaporator ends disposed within the motor portion and condenser ends disposed within the cooling chamber. During operation of the motor and cooling fluid moving device, the cooling fluid contacts the heat pipe condenser ends to extract heat from the condenser ends, hence cooling the evaporator ends of the heat pipes, thereby cooling the motor portion of the motor and the stator and rotor housed therein.

A method of cooling shaft bearings of a high speed rotating machine is provided. In various embodiments, the method includes utilizing a primary cooling circuit of the machine that is structured and operable to cool a drive package of the machine to cool condenser ends of each of a plurality of heat pipes absent an auxiliary cooling system structured for cooling the heat pipe condenser ends. Each heat pipe including a respective evaporator end disposed proximate the shaft bearings to absorb heat generated by the bearings during operation of the machine.

Heat pipe bearing cooler systems and methods

A totally enclosed motor comprising a housing totally encloses an electrical package that includes plurality of slot vents extending radially outward from a shaft on which the electrical package is mounted. The electrical package being operable to generate a closed circuit electrical package cooling air flow that circulates through the slot vents and is confined within the housing. The motor additionally including an exterior cooling assembly that is operable to generate a directed exterior air flow along an exterior portion of the housing. The motor further including a plurality of heat pipes having evaporator ends disposed within the closed circuit electrical package cooling air flow and condenser ends disposed within the exterior air flow, whereby heat is removed from the electrical package chamber such that the 'Totally Enclosed' more provides a power output substantially equivalent to that of an 'Open' motor of approximately the same size.

Totally enclosed heat pipe cooled motor

A motor including a frame that defines a motor portion and an adjacent cooling portion, and a plurality of heat pipes disposed within and fully enclosed by the motor frame. Each heat pipe has an evaporator end disposed within the portion of the frame that defines the motor portion and a condenser end disposed within the portion of the frame that defines the cooling portion. A cooling chamber within the motor cooling portion is structured to have a fluid introduced therein by a working device such that at least a portion of the frame defining the cooling portion is cooled via the working fluid, thereby extracting heat from the heat pipe condenser ends and cooling the motor portion of the motor.

Certain exemplary embodiments comprise an computer readable storage device having instructions stored therein that are indicative of reducing slow roll electrical runout value of a shaft of an electric motor, the shaft having a runout sensing area; the instructions including determining an electrical runout value for the runout sensing area; rotating the shaft; determining the temperature range and time interval for heating the runout sensing area of the shaft sufficient to reduce the electrical runout value; and heating the shaft sensing area during shaft rotation at the calculated temperature range for the calculated time interval.

Methods for correcting slow roll

An electric motor including a motor portion, a cooling portion and a plurality of heat pipes is provided. The motor portion includes a stator and a rotor that when energized with electric current causes the rotor to rotate. The motor portion comprises a motor frame that encloses the rotor and stator from exterior elements. The cooling portion is adjacent the motor portion and exterior of the motor portion. In various embodiments it defines a fluid chamber containing a quantity of fluid that is prevented from contacting interior of the motor portion. The plurality of heat pipes within the motor portion extend from the motor portion to the cooling portion such that the fluid contacts the heat pipe within the cooling portion in order to remove heat from the heat pipe.

Certain exemplary embodiments provide a rotating machine assembly comprising a rotor machine assembly including a shaft, a plurality of laminations shrink fit around the circumference of the shaft, and weights affixed therebetween the laminations for balancing the rotating machine assembly.

A mechanical mount axially and radially secures a device, such as a fan, to a shaft of a motor without a need for setscrews or keyways. Elimination of a keyway and setscrew for securing a fan to a motor shaft minimizes stress that the fan is subjected to during its operation. Certain exemplary embodiments of a system of the present invention comprising: a device; a mount of hardened material having a insertion edge with a concave shape secured to the device; and a shaft including an axial groove having a concave shape and a circumferential groove, wherein the mount along the insertion edge is insertable within the axial and circumferential groove, the concave shape of the insertion edge of the mount and the shape of the axial groove promoting a secure fit between the shaft and the mount to substantially prevent movement of the device.
