An electronics assembly including a motor controller electronics arrangement includes a housing enclosing a solid-state switch array, a cold plate arranged within the housing and in thermal communication with the solid-state switch array, and a feeder cable. The feeder cable is electrically connected to the solid-state switch array, has a coolant jacket extending thereabout, is separated from the switch arrangement by the housing, and is in liquid communication with the cold plate to limit heat communicated by the feeder cable into the housing. Electrical systems and methods of cooling feeder cables are also described.

Motor controller electronics arrangements with actively cooled feeder cables

A power feeder device can include a base having a mounting portion and a plurality of connector structures extending from the mounting portion and spaced apart relative to each other to form a respective gap therebetween. Each connector structure can be configured to receive a respective pair of terminals to electrically connect the respective pair of terminals within connector structures and to block a line of sight between an adjacent pair of terminals. The device can also include a cover configured to mate with the base to enclose each of the plurality of connector structures and to increase a length of a creepage path between each pair of terminals by at least partially inserting into each gap between the connector structures. The base and the cover can be configured to form a terminal opening on each lateral side when assembled to allow pass-through of a conductor and/or portion of each terminal.

Power feeder connector devices

A system for reducing low cycle fatigue of a soldered connection includes a controller and a heating element operatively connected to the controller. The system also includes a printed wire board soldered in connection with an electronic component. The controller is configured to retrieve a signal indicative of a temperature of the electronic component, and compare the temperature to a stored predetermined range of operating temperatures. Responsive to determining that the temperature of the electronic component is less than a lower threshold temperature of the predetermined range of operating temperatures, the controller transmits a signal to the heating element that causes the heating element to heat the electronic component. The controller then saves, to an operatively connected computer readable memory, a magnitude of temperature difference and a number of times that magnitude is reached. The controller uses the stored information to track the life of the electronic component.

Low cycle fatigue prevention

A contactor post for an electrical contactor may comprise a body comprising an electrically and thermally conductive material, and a heat sink shunt extending from the body and comprising the electrically and thermally conductive material, wherein the body and the heat sink shunt are comprised of a single piece of the electrically and thermally conductive material.

Integrated mounting post and heat sink for contactor arrangement in power distribution system

A contactor assembly post is provided. The contactor assembly post includes a first portion electrically connected to an external bus bar at an exterior of an electrical contactor housing, a second portion electrically connected to an internal bus bar at the exterior of the electrical contactor housing, a third portion and fins. The internal bus bar is configured to extend into an interior of the electrical contactor housing to be electrically coupled to another internal bus bar. The third portion extends transversely between the first and second portions. The fins extend transversely from multiple points defined along a longitudinal axis of the third portion.

Integrated contactor mounting post

A fluid cooled cold plate includes a main coolant passage with a first cross-sectional area taken laterally in a direction perpendicular to the flow direction and a finned coolant passage having a second cross-sectional area taken laterally in a direction perpendicular to the flow direction, with the second area smaller than the first area. Fluidly connecting the main coolant passage with the finned coolant passage is a branch oriented such that a fluid is turned 90&#xb0; or more when passing into the branch from the main coolant passage. Also included is a coolant bypass passage in fluid communication with the main coolant passage and located fluidically parallel to the finned coolant passage.

Prevention of cooling flow blockage

A resistance-limited electrical interface includes a printed wiring board, a bus bar, a U-shaped conductor, and a retainer. The bus bar extends from the printed wiring board. The U-shaped conductor has a first wall and an opposed second wall, the bus bar arranged between the first and second wall to define a conductive joint between the first wall and the bus bar. The retainer is compressively seated between the second wall and bus bar opposite the conductive joint to exert force on the bus bar for retaining the bus bar in the U-shaped conductor and limiting electrical resistance of the conductive joint.

A method for thermal management of a circuit board includes modifying an air flow over the circuit board to increase speed or direction the air flow over a component of the circuit board using a deflector.

In one exemplary embodiment, an electric machine includes a stator having a plurality of axial protrusions forming a plurality of stator cooling channels on a radially outer surface of the stator and a tapered portion located adjacent a distal end of at least one of the plurality of protrusions. A core assembly for an electric motor includes a heat exchanger comprising a plurality of fins. The fins define a plurality of cooling air passages that include offset fins that disrupt cooling air flow to reduce the formation of boundary layers and improve heat transfer capacity.

Enhanced motor cooling system

A solid state power control module contains non-volatile memory. A switch for opening is provided to break a supply of power to a component. The switch is operable to trip (open) when an undesirable condition is detected, and further to be opened upon receiving a control signal. A status of the switch is stored in the non-volatile memory. A detector is provided for identifying when a module has been mounted in a housing, and communicates with the non-volatile memory if it is determined that the module is newly installed in a housing. A system and method are also claimed.

An electrical inductor assembly comprises an inductor core having a circular shape, a wire guide that surrounds the inductor core and includes a plurality of slots, at least one of the slots forming a path winding around the inductor core, and at least one wire placed in one of the plurality of slots to form a winding. A method of forming an electrical inductor assembly comprises forming an inductor core having a circular shape, surrounding the inductor core with a wire guide, winding at least one wire around the inductor core along a slot in the wire guide, and applying an insulating material to the slot containing the at least one wire to electrically insulate the at least one wire.

Electrical inductor assembly

An electronic assembly provides fault tolerant cooling for the electrical components of the electronic assembly to prevent premature failure of the electronic components due to overheating. The electronic assembly includes a chassis (20) having an exterior surface (22) and an interior cavity (24), a plurality of heat generating components (26) mounted in the cavity (24) and in heat exchange relation to the chassis (20) to reject generated heat to the chassis (20), and a fault tolerant heat exchanger (28) on the exterior surface (22) in heat exchange relation with the chassis (20). The heat exchanger (28) includes a passive heat sink (30) and an active heat sink (32). The passive heat sink (30) is configured and sized to reject the generated heat of the electrical components (26) at a first rate from the chassis (20) to the environment surround the chassis (20) via radiation and natural convection. The active heat sink (32) includes one or more coolant passages (34) and is configured and sized to reject the generated heat at a second rate from the chassis (20) to a coolant air flow that is flowed through the one or more coolant passages (34), with the second rate being greater than the first rate. The active heat sink (32) includes a conductive thermal path (36) from the chassis (20) to the passive heat sink (30) to reject the generated heat at the first rate from the chassis (20) to the passive heat sink (30) with no coolant air being flowed through the one or more passages (34).

Electronic assembly with fault tolerant cooling

The bleed air requirements for a pressurization and environmental control system for the cabin (10) of an aircraft may be reduced by a system that includes a turbomachine (20) having a rotary compressor (22) driven by a turbine wheel (26). A ram air inlet (16) is connected to the compressor inlet (28) and the aircraft is provided with a cabin air exhaust port (18) which is connected to the outlet (34) of the turbine wheel (26). A heat exchanger (40) has a cabin inlet air flow path (42) and a cabin outlet air flow path (44) in heat exchange with one another. The cabin inlet air flow path (42) is connected to the outlet (30) of the compressor (22) and to the cabin (10) of the aircraft. The cabin outlet air flow path (44) is connected to the cabin (10) as well as to the inlet (32) of the turbine (26). A bleed air inlet port (36), (70) is adapted to be connected to the bleed air tap (14) of a turbine engine (12) and is connected to one of the flow paths (42, 44, 52, 60) between the compressor outlet (30) and the turbine wheel inlet (32).
