A method of synchronization comprises receiving, at a first generator set, data indicating a characteristic for a component of a voltage for a source, and receiving, at a second generator set, the data indicating the characteristic for the component of the voltage for the source. The method also includes calculating, by each of the first and second generator sets, a speed offset parameter and a voltage offset parameter based on the received data. The first and second generator sets are configured to receive the same data indicating the component and independently calculate the same speed offset parameter and voltage offset parameter. The method further includes controlling operation of the first and second generator sets based on the calculated speed offset and voltage offset parameters.

A method includes determining an average set load corresponding to a plurality of gensets of a power system, generating a power error based on the determined average set load and a set load of a genset of the plurality, generating a first offset based on a function of the power error and a predetermined factor, determining a secondary offset, generating a final offset based on the first offset and the secondary offset, generating a final reference value based on a nominal reference and the final offset, and applying the final reference value to obtain proportional load sharing between the plurality of gensets.

An electrical generator damage protection apparatus is provided. The protection apparatus includes a circuit breaker which opens and closes an electrical circuit in response to a breaker control signal. A controller is operatively coupled to the circuit breaker to generate the breaker control signal based upon periodically sensed current magnitudes output by a generator. This breaker control signal controls total current output by the generator over a predetermined time span to less than a generator damage curve. The generator damage curve corresponds to a maximum amount of total current which can be generated by the generator over the predetermined time span without damaging the generator. In addition, a electrical generator system having the protection apparatus is provided. Also, a method for protecting an electrical generator from damage with a breaker control signal which controls total current output by the generator over a predetermined time span to less than a generator damage curve is provided.

Electrical generator damage protection apparatus and method with circuit

An electrical generator system integrated controller device utilizing PID control and capable of regulating voltage or current, and frequency simultaneously. The device utilizes a micro-controller (30.1) to monitor the engine generator set (20), then determines the appropriate signal to deliver to the electrical generator set (20) to regulate the engine throttle (21) and the generator (22) field windings. The micro-controller (30.1) also provides for real and reactive load sharing with additional generator sets (40) while also providing for an integrated circuit interrupter module (500) to open the line from the generator (22) to the load bus (42). Additionally, serial communications (34) are provided as well as displays (35), meters (37), and operator input (36). Finally, the permissive paralleling module (700) provides that the engine electrical generator set (20) will not be allowed to be connected to the load bus (42) until standards of voltage and phase have been achieved for a set period of time.

An apparatus for detecting and analyzing a fault condition occurring in an engine electrical generator set (21) while providing means for inhibiting the engine electrical generator set (21) upon the occurrence of the fault. The apparatus utilizes a run relay (22) connected in series with single contact fault senders (26) to a reference potential. The single contact fault senders (26) monitor various parameters of the engine electrical generator set (21). When a parameter is exceeded, the single contact fault sender (26) opens, de-energizing run relay (22) thereby inhibiting engine electrical generator set (21). Optical isolators (27) monitor the single contact fault senders (26) and provide information on their status to logic determining means (24) to alert an operator of an exceeded parameter. Also provided is a bypass switch (31) to bypass single contact fault senders (26).
