A system for coupling a trim component to a body component having a bearing surface. The system has a threaded weld fastener coupled to the body. The trim piece has an exterior bearing surface and an interior bearing surface. Defined within the trim piece is an aperture having a lead-in portion. A rotatable fastener having a nut body with a cylindrical body portion is floatably positioned within the aperture. The body defines a fastener holding aperture and defines a side slot.

Fascia bracket mounting system&#x2014;captive floating nut system to weld stud

A positive hold tube weld stud assembly connectable to a vehicle body panel includes a substantially hollow tubular-shaped body. The body includes an inner body wall defined by a body internal aperture. A raised engagement portion extends inwardly from the inner body wall. A first chamfer positioned proximate an end surface of the body transitions between the inner body wall and the raised engagement portion. A second chamfer transitions between the raised engagement portion and the inner body wall. An insert is partially received in the body internal aperture and is adapted to engage a body connectable device. The insert includes a chamfered stud engagement portion releasably engageable with the second chamfer in an insert installed position.

A fastening system with a weld stud having an annular weldment portion and a fracturable nut is provided. The fracturable nut and stud construction is configured to fail under torsional load prior to the structural parts failure.

A preferred embodiment of an electrical connection employs a stud having a patterned segment, a shoulder and a flange. In another aspect of the present invention, the stud is an electrically grounded weld stud. A protective cap is provided for deterring contamination of the threaded portion of a weld stud in still another aspect of the present invention.

Weld stud

An improved grounding stud/nut sub-assembly for use in automobiles and the like is provided wherein the nut has a thickened washer portion to facilitate assembly of the nut and washer together onto an automotive substrate. The nut also has a swagged, flattened or distorted thread to make it a prevailing torque nut to hold the final assembly securely in place, as well as to strip paint from the threads of the stud in an interim step during the assembly. The stud also has a washer portion to achieve an appropriate stand off of the ground wire from the substrate and to protect the weld gun collet from the heat of the welding.
