A method for producing personalized cards on a substantially continuous basis. The method includes providing multiple supply rolls of card stock having a thickness of at least about 12 mils. The card stock is corona treated in an in-line corona treating unit to provide a printable surface having a surface tension energy of at least about 38 dynes/cm. Fixed and variable data are printed on individual card units of the card stock in first and second printing units of the in-line printing system. A removable activation label may be applied by an in-line label application unit to the variable data. The card units are die cut in an in-line die-cutting unit to a predetermined size. The first and second printing units are shaft driven printing units and the card units are capable of producing card units at a rate of at least 50,000 card units per hour.

Continuous personalized plastic card manufacturing system

A reward or retailer's card and a method of making a card having an overall recycle code of no greater than about 5. The card includes a core card stock made of a material having a recycle code of less than about 5. Variable indicia is printed on the card stock. A hot stamped substantially transparent foil layer is applied to at least the variable printed indicia on the card stock to protect the printed indicia.

Environmentally favorable reward cards

An in-line method for making a water-activatable laminate. The method includes providing a polymeric film having a first surface and a second surface. An opaque water activatable material containing from about 5 to about 40 wt. % pigment and from about 60 to about 95 wt. % binder is applied to the first surface of the film using an in-line coating technique selected from a flexographic coater, a rotary screen press, and a rotogravure coating technique. The coating is then dried to provide a single water activatable opaque layer having a thickness ranging from about 0.60 mil to about 2.0 mil. The binder for the opaque coating layer includes a mixture of solvent, butyl acetate, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and propylene glycol. The laminate may be used multiple times without adversely affecting its ability to reveal and hide images.

Method for making water activatable device

The invention provides a food package insert made of a multi-layered structure having at least one removable edge portion. The multi-layered structure includes a cellulosic support web a cellulosic transfer web is disposed adjacent the support web. The transfer web contains a transferrable image attached thereto. A cellulosic release web having a release surface is disposed adjacent the transfer web. The release web has a food contact surface opposite the release surface. Each of the support web, transfer web and release web have first edge portions disposed in the removable edge portion of the multi-layered structure. The multi-layered structure is constructed with perforations which enable an elongate web to be separated into individual inserts for inserting in a food package.

Food package insert

The invention provides a food grade laminate for insertion into a food container. The food grade laminate includes a laminate structure having at least one removable edge portion and facing cellulosic webs. Each of the webs have first and second surfaces, a first web edge portion disposed adjacent the removable edge portion, opposing end edge portions and a second edge portion opposite the first edge portion. A substantially oil and grease impermeable food contact layer is laminated on the first surface of the webs. Indicia is printed on the second surface of at least one of the webs. The second surface of the webs along the first edge portion and the opposing end edge portions are substantially adhesively attached to one another to provide the laminate structure. Perforations are provided between adjacent laminate structures on an elongate roll of laminate structures to enable separation between adjacent laminate structures with a separation force ranging from about 6 to about 16 pounds per lineal inch of the perforations.

Food grade laminate

A laminate and a method for making a laminate having a hidden or shielded image. The laminate includes a substrate having an first surface containing an image thereon and a polymeric film laminated to the first substrate surface overlying the image. The film contains an exposed water activatable opaque layer having a thickness ranging from about 0.60 mil to about 2.0 mil, the opaque layer including aluminum silicate and a binder. Upon wetting the opaque layer, the hidden or shielded image is revealed. The method includes a means for producing the laminate in high volumes for minimizing the production costs thereof. Upon drying the opaque layer, the image is again hidden or shielded from view. The laminate may be used multiple times without adversely affecting its ability to reveal and hide images.
