A method of abrading a workpiece includes: contacting a metallic workpiece, having a bulk temperature of less than 500 degrees Celsius, with a stationary rotating bonded abrasive wheel having a diameter of at least 150 millimeters, wherein the bonded abrasive wheel comprises ceramic shaped abrasive particles retained in a binder, and wherein metallic swarf is formed, and at least 20 percent by weight of the metallic swarf is filamentary metallic swarf having a length of at least 3 mm.

Method of abrading a workpiece

Ceramic shaped abrasive particles have four major sides joined by six common edges. Each one of the four major sides contacts three other of the four major sides. The six common edges have substantially the same length. Methods of making the ceramic shaped particle are disclosed. The ceramic shaped abrasive particles are useful for abrading a surface of a workpiece. An abrasive article includes the ceramic shaped abrasive particles retained in a binder.

A bonded abrasive wheel comprises ceramic shaped abrasive particles retained in a binder. The ceramic shaped abrasive particles are bounded by a respective base, top and plurality of sides connecting the base and the top. Adjacent sides meet at respective side edges having an average radius of curvature of less than 50 micrometers.

An abrasive agglomerate includes a plurality of abrasive grains bonded together in a three-dimensional structure by a substantially continuous, non-porous inorganic binder, wherein the abrasive grains have an average size of between about 0.5 microns and about 1500 microns, the inorganic binder is less than about 75 percent, by weight, of the abrasive agglomerate, and the bulk density of the abrasive agglomerate is less than about 90 percent of the bulk density of the abrasive grains.

A system for packaging resin bonded molded abrasive articles having a flexible package comprising at least one sidewall defining an enclosed volume and at least one resin bonded abrasive article positioned within the enclosed volume. Abrasive article packaging and method of making same

The present invention is a fixed abrasive article for grinding or polishing the surface of a glass workpiece. The abrasive article for grinding glass has abrasive composites containing agglomerates having diamond particles, and optionally other abrasive particles. The abrasive composites are integrally molded to a backing. The abrasive articles, when used to grind glass, provides a high stock removal rate but provides a smooth surface finish. Lubricant can be used to improve the grinding characteristics of the abrasive article.
