An electromagnetic vector sensor (EMVS) system, having a plurality of EMVS devices consisting of a plurality of loop antenna elements spatially orthogonally integrated with and electrically isolated from a plurality of dipole antenna elements, mounted on a rotatably adjustable platform having a true north orientation, including active circuitry residing in antenna housings, and external executing software programs causing the active circuitry in cooperation with the EMVS device and receivers to determine angle of arrival and resolution of incoming wave vectors and polarization of incoming signals and to perform accurate high frequency geolocation signal processing; the programs which perform calibration and antenna element placement determination operations, also cause the system to collect data of known transmitted high frequency skywave signals, and estimate direction of arrival of unknown signals by detecting, resolving and measuring components of an electric field and a magnetic field at a single point.

Electromagnetic vector sensor (EMVS)

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide an antenna system including a first set of receive antenna elements and a second set of transmit antenna elements. Each receive antenna element is paired with one of the transmit elements. Paired receive and transmit antenna elements point in the same azimuthal direction, and the receive antenna element feeds its paired transmit antenna element. Each receive antenna element and each transmit antenna element has a phase center, and the phase centers of the receive and transmit antenna elements are all positioned substantially along the same axis. The receive and transmit elements are arranged in a phase-conjugate configuration such that, for each pair of receive and transmit antenna elements, those receive and transmit antenna elements are altitudinally spaced substantially the same distance from a plane through the antenna system.

Phase-conjugate antenna system

An antenna system having a transmit assembly with a first set of antenna elements for transmitting signals. Each antenna element in this first set may be disposed from a respective adjacent antenna element by a predetermined azimuthal increment and by a predetermined altitudinal increment. The antenna system further includes a receive assembly having a second set of antenna elements for receiving signals. Each antenna element in this second set may be disposed from a respective adjacent antenna element by a predetermined azimuthal increment and by a predetermined altitudinal increment. The predetermined azimuthal and altitudinal increments of the first set may be substantially similar to the predetermined azimuthal and altitudinal increments, respectively, of the second set.

Electromagnetic vector sensors (EMVS) apparatus method and system

A phased array antenna includes a plurality of subarrays, and each subarray includes a panel, a plurality of primary antenna elements positioned on the panel, and at least one pair of sensor antenna elements positioned along a perimeter of the panel. One of the sensor antenna elements is a transmitting sensor antenna element and the other sensor antenna element is a receiving sensor antenna element. Changes in the mutual coupling between the two high frequency sensor antenna elements as a function of deformation of the subarrays provides a calibration signal outside of the operational band of the array while the array is operated and without requiring external calibration sources.

Mutual coupling based calibration technique for structurally deformed phased array apertures

An ultra-wideband antenna array architecture includes a first array of radiating elements, a second array of radiating elements, and a third array of radiating elements, with their respective element widths proportionately ascending in size. In one configuration, the first array radiating element width is half a wavelength at the highest frequency of operation, the second array element width is twice the first width, and the third array element width is twice the second width. The first, second, and third arrays are positioned in a wavelength-scaled lattice wherein the wavelength scaling is based on design operative frequencies and whereby adjacent actively-radiating elements for an operative frequency are aligned so as to produce constructive interference when powered up. Feed means such as a diplexer with a selected-band frequency control then provides power to each array.

Wavelength-scaled ultra-wideband antenna array

A reconfigurable polarization antenna includes a microwave dielectric substrate having a ground plane that has a centrally located slot with five conducting patches, four of which form an evenly spaced apart perimeter group with a gap between each and the fifth, centrally positioned conducting patch. A conducting pad is positioned in each gap and is connected via a switch to the ground plane. A microstrip feed line including a short stub is positioned on the opposite side of the substrate and electromagnetically coupled to the slot. The polarization of the antenna is reconfigured by a selection of an on or off state of each of said switches.

Perturbed square ring slot antenna with reconfigurable polarization

A phased array antenna system includes an RF front end, a radome, and an optical calibrator embedded in the radome for enabling in-situ calibration of the RF front end. The optical calibrator employs an optical timing signal generator (OTSG), a Variable Optical Amplitude and Delay Generator array (VOADGA) for receiving the modulated optical output signal and generating a plurality of VOADGA timing signals, and an optical timing signal distributor (OTSD). The in-situ optical calibrator allows for reduced calibration time and makes it feasible to perform calibration whenever necessary.

Antenna calibration method and system

A method for electronically scanning a predetermined geostationary orbital arc segment around the earth with an antenna system. The antenna system includes a planar array. A number of fixed electronic squints is selected. Lengths of the total plurality of fixed delay line lengths are generated for the planar array based on the number of fixed electronic squints. All of the antenna elements in the planar array for the mobile earth station are fitted with the generated lengths. The orbital arc segment is electronically scanned with a single linear scan with the planar array. This method is extendable to the case of multiple beams by adding additional phase shifters at each column and keeping the number of fixed line lengths the same, regardless of the number of additional beams.
