A pool filter system includes a filter housing with an open interior. A pleated filter container in the open interior of the filter housing has a pleated filter side wall and divides the interior of the filter housing into an pleated filter compartment and an particulate filter compartment surrounding the pleated filter side wall. The pleated filter side wall has a plurality of pleated filter container openings. A particulate filter medium is within the particulate filter compartment, and a pleated filter is within the open interior of the pleated filter compartment. A water inlet communicates with the particulate filter compartment, and a water outlet communicates with the pleated filter compartment. The pleated filter container openings in the pleated filter container side wall have a dimension that is less than the diameter of the particulate filter medium. A backwash assembly and a method of filtering pool water is also disclosed.

A restraint system for an occupant seat mounted in a motor vehicle includes a processor to produce at least one control signal to control either or both of an electronically controllable unit to disable or impede operation of the motor vehicle and a notification device to produce a notification unless, in sequence, a first sensor produces a first signal indicating detection of an occupant being seated in the occupant seat followed by at least one second sensor producing least one second signal indicating that a rotatable shaft of a web retractor coupled to a web of a restraint harness has rotated by at least a threshold amount followed by a third sensor producing a third signal indicating that a tongue of the restraint system is engaged with a buckle of the restraint system.

A near-field radar apparatus includes a fixed beam planar radar antenna and a radiation pattern adaptation device disposed substantially at the near-field boundary of the antenna. The adaptation device comprises a plurality of dielectric elements that individually constitute or approximate different surface portions of an idealized quasi-spherical or quasi-cylindrical radome reflector. The dielectric elements can be maintained physically separate or combined about the diffraction point of the antenna to form a single dielectric element. The dielectric elements may be mounted on a radome that is otherwise transparent to the radiation pattern, or otherwise suspended at or near the near-field boundary of the antenna.

Apparatus for shaping the radiation pattern of a planar antenna near-field radar system

An object sensing system is capable of masking certain detected objects such that the system does not provide an alarm. Initially, a projected path of the vehicle is determined by using a current steering angle of the vehicle. Next, a desired warning distance is determined based upon the current steering angle. Then, a current distance to a sensed object, as derived from an object sensor, is determined. Finally, an alarm is provided only if the sensed object is within the desired warning distance.

Technique for limiting the range of an object sensing system in a vehicle

Side detection radar utilized on a host vehicle for covering a blind spot in a vehicle mirror view produces alert commands resulting in signals which have gaps due to poor radar reflectivity of portions of a target. To fill these gaps to produce a steady alert signal when a target vehicle is in radar view and to extend the perceived zone of coverage, a variable sustain time is added to each alert signal which exceeds a threshold value. The sustain time varies as an inverse function of the relative vehicle speed and the threshold value varies as an inverse function of vehicle speed. If the alert signal is shorter than the threshold value, then a minimized hold time can be applied.

Method of improving zone of coverage response of automotive radar

A radar system for detecting hazardous objects has a transceiver including a transmitting antenna for transmitting microwave power. For a side detection system, power transmission is available when the vehicle is moving forward. A signal processor receives a pulsed vehicle speed signal and a reverse signal and is programmed to terminate transmission when no speed pulse is received for a preset time or when the reverse signal is present. The transmission is terminated by removing power from the transceiver or by rerouting the microwave power from the antenna to an internal calibration circuit. Radar transmission is re-enabled when the vehicle begins to move forward again. For a rear detection system, radar transmissions are enabled when the reverse signal is present.

Transmit power control for automotive radar system

A method and system for discriminating a target which presents a hazard to a motor vehicle moving in a first lane of traffic from a target moving in a second adjacent lane of traffic which does not present a hazard to the vehicle. The method includes the steps of utilizing an antenna mounted flush to a side of the vehicle to produce a radar beam having a beamwidth greater than 5-10 degrees to illuminate the target. At least a portion of the radar beam is produced along a first axis which is perpendicular to the direction of motion of the vehicle. The reflected signal is received from the illuminated target and a velocity of the illuminated target is estimated with a Kalman filter relative to the velocity of the vehicle in the direction of a second axis which is parallel to the direction of motion of the vehicle based on the reflected signal. The method also includes the steps of measuring the velocity of the vehicle using at least one velocity sensor and determining that the illuminated target is hazardous if the sum of the measured vehicle velocity and the estimated parallel target velocity is greater than a predetermined threshold. The illuminated target is determined not to be hazardous if the sum of the measured vehicle velocity and the estimated parallel target velocity is less than a predetermined threshold.

Blind-zone target discrimination method and system for road vehicle radar

Detection means having thin wire electrodes that are placed on the outer surface of a radome that shelters an antenna used for transmitting and/or receiving intelligence in the form of radio waves, such as those microwave signals used in radar, especially radar that is used for a vehicle. The thin wire electrodes are placed on the radome surface in a way which will not change antenna characteristics. The electrodes measure the electrical resistance of the obstruction material, such as wet mud, that may find its way onto the outer surface of the radome during the operation of the vehicle and that may reduce the sensitivity of the radar's receiver so as to prevent it from recognizing otherwise discernable echo information. The detection means, upon detecting a predetermined electrical resistance of the obstruction material, provides a signal that is routed to the operator that is indicative that the radar performance may have degraded beyond an acceptable limit.

A p-channel depletion device in a MOSFET is formed and preferably comprises a silicon substrate, an N-well region, P+ source and drain regions, and a polysilicon gate which has been appropriately doped to be of a P- conductivity type. The resulting structure performs analogously to a depletion device formed in accordance with conventional methods wherein a depletion mask and implant are utilized and are characterized by a threshold voltage of approximately +250 millivolts or greater.

A MOS integrated circuit in which a plurality of MOS devices on a substrate are interconnected with each other and with signal, power and ground pads in first and second electrical circuits adapted to process separate electrical signals. The pads are formed of first metal members below a passivation layer and second metal members in a second metallization layer projecting through openings in the passivation layer to contact the first metal members. A pair of adjacent signal carrying elements in the first and second electrical circuits subject to crosstalk through a horizontal parasitic capacitance of the passivation layer are shielded by a first metal member of the first metallization layer and a second metal member of the second metallization layer connected to the first metal member and extending through and above the passivation layer to block the capacitive coupling therethrough, the first and second metal members being grounded to the ground pad through the first metallization layer below the passivation layer or through the second metallization layer above the passivation layer.
