A wireless power and communication unit for field devices is configured to connect to a field device and provide operating power and wired digital communication between the unit and the field device. RF circuitry in the unit is configured for radio frequency communication. In one embodiment, power supply circuitry in the unit includes one or more solar power cells that convert solar energy into electricity to power both the unit and the field device. The unit interacts with the field device in accordance with a standard industry communication protocol. The unit communicates wirelessly with an external device, such as a control room, based upon the interaction with the field device.

A process device includes a controller and a wireless communications module. The wireless communications module is coupled to the controller. A power generation module is provided to generate electricity for the process device. The power generator module can be disposed within the process device or it can be a separate unit coupled to the process device.

Power generation for process devices

A multivariable process fluid pressure transmitter includes an electronics module and a sensor module. The sensor module is coupled to the electronics module. A process fluid temperature sensor is coupled to the process fluid pressure transmitter. A differential pressure sensor is disposed within the sensor module and is operably coupled to a plurality of process fluid pressure inlets. A static pressure sensor is also disposed within the sensor module and is operably coupled to at least one of the process fluid pressure inlets. A first temperature sensor is disposed within the sensor module and is configured to provide an indication of a temperature of the differential pressure sensor. A second temperature sensor is disposed within the sensor module and is configured to provide an indication of a temperature of the static pressure sensor. Measurement circuitry is operably coupled to the differential pressure sensor, the static pressure sensor, and the first and second temperature sensors. A processor is coupled to the measurement circuitry and is configured to provide a compensated differential pressure output based on a measurement of the differential pressure sensor and the first temperature sensor, and to provide a compensated static pressure output based on a measurement of the static pressure sensor and the second temperature sensor.

Temperature compensation of a multivariable pressure transmitter

A field device is coupled to a process through at least one process interface element. The process interface element may be a field device flange, a manifold, or a process flange. The process interface element has a temperature sensor attached thereto, and is adapted to receive a thermal source. In one embodiment, the thermal source is one or more electrical heaters. In another embodiment, the thermal source is thermal transfer fluid tracing through the process interface element. A controller is coupled to the temperature sensor and is adapted to control the heat applied to the process interface element based upon the temperature of the process interface element measured by the temperature sensor.

Thermally controlled process interface

A microwave level gauge for measuring a level of a process material in a tank includes a ceramic seal and a microwave conductor. The ceramic seal is disposed adjacent to an opening in the tank and adapted to isolate circuitry from the process material. The microwave conductor is electrically coupled to the circuitry and extends through the hermetic seal and into the process material in the tank. The ceramic seal and an isolating adapter cooperate to isolate the microwave conductor from the process fluid and from external forces.

A pressure module includes a sensor assembly with tubes extending from a pressure sensor to fluid isolator members. The pressure sensor is contained in a cavity in a module housing. The module housing includes support members joined by joints to the fluid isolator members to provide barriers to leakage of process fluids into the cavity. Threaded process inlets on a bottom outside surface of the module housing couple the process fluids to the fluid isolator members through process passageways in the module housing.

Pressure module

A scalable process transmitter architecture includes a unitized sensor module and an optional scalable transmitter. The sensor module has a sensor output that is configurable which can connect locally to a scalable transmitter module to form a transmitter, or can be wired directly to a remote receiver. The scalable transmitter can mount on the unitized sensor module and generates a scalable output for a remote receiver. The transmitter module can provide more advanced features for specific applications.

Scalable process transmitter

A pressure transmitter with a hermetically sealed housing surrounding a cavity that is filled with a gas that is free of integrated circuit contaminants. A sensor circuit including an integrated circuit is placed in the cavity and a gas fill port on the housing is sealed. The sensor circuit is electrically adjustable from outside the pressure transmitter and the integrated circuit is protected from contaminated atmospheres outside the pressure transmitter.

An in-line pressure transmitter for sensing an absolute or gage process pressure of a process fluid includes an in-line process coupling. The coupling has a mounting member which includes a substantially flat mounting face and a bore generally aligned with an isolation diaphragm assembly. The member is configured to mount to a flat process coupling.

An environmentally sealed service block is mounted inside a field wiring compartment of a process fluid transmitter. The service block has field wiring terminals, sealed jumper assemblies and sealed pushbutton switches connected to a sealed cable and plug. The sealed plug plugs into a permanently sealed transmitter assembly. High impedance programming circuitry connected to the jumper assemblies and pushbutton switches is completely sealed and not subject to malfunction due to contamination present in the field wiring compartment.

An environmentally sealed instrument circuit adapter connecting a process transmitter to instrument wiring. An environmentally sealing elastomeric part seals between a lip on an outer sleeve and a connector header of the process transmitter. One or more washers can provide sealing between the lip and the elastomeric part when tightened. The adapter protects contact pins, sockets and loop wires from damage due to liquids, humidity, dust and other contaminants.

A pressure sensor module and method for pre-installation without a converter module. The pressure sensor module is hermetically sealed and can remain undamaged in an installation environment without a converter module. The pressure sensor module can be assembled later with a converter module in the installation environment. The pressure sensor module includes an isolator, a pressure sensor and a circuit that provides a bus for energization, control and a digital pressure output. The bus is connected to contacts in an insulating feedthrough. An integrally formed hermetic external support structure surrounds the pressure sensor and circuit. The hermetic external support structure has a threaded process fluid inlet around the isolator, and a threaded support sleeve supporting the feedthrough.
