An embodiment provides a method, including: obtaining, using a processor, contextual information relating to an information handling device; adjusting, using a processor, an automated speech recognition engine using the contextual information; receiving, at an audio receiver of the information handling device, user speech input; and providing, using a processor, recognized speech based on the user speech input received and the contextual information adjustment to the automated speech recognition engine. Other aspects are described and claimed.

Adjusting speech recognition using contextual information

A device includes a processor and a memory accessible to the processor. The memory bears instructions executable by the processor to receive at least one signal from at least one camera in communication with the device, determine that a user of the device is looking at least substantially at a personal assistant feature presented on a display of the device at least partially based on the signal, and initiate a personal assistant which processes audible input from the user received at the device in response to a determination that the user is looking at least substantially at the personal assistant feature. The personal assistant is associated with the personal assistant feature.

Initiating personal assistant application based on eye tracking and gestures

The provision of a mode in silver zinc batteries where a user can access extra capacity as an emergency reserve for times when extra capacity is needed. While this temporarily increases capacity, it does not detrimentally affect cycle life over the longer term, and it permits a silver zinc battery to essentially mimic the long term capacity and cycle life characteristics of a lithium ion battery while still affording inherent advantages associated with silver zinc batteries. In a variant embodiment, this ability to temporarily increase capacity is optimally employed at the end of a battery life cycle in a controlled 'roll-off' that accords additional cycles of battery service life. In another variant embodiment, the general capability to control capacity is employed to gradually decrease the available capacity of a battery over the life of the battery, to thereby extend the battery service life.

A method and system are provided for detecting theft of a computer. A portable device is provided to wirelessly communicate with a theft deterrent function of the computer at a set frequency. In response to an increased distance between the portable device and the computer, a scan rate controller can automatically increase the scan rate for the wireless communication signal.

A method and system for managing power in a computer system is disclosed. The computer system includes a host. The method and system include providing a Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub, at least one USB connector and attach/removal detection logic. The at least one USB connector is coupled with the USB hub. The attach/removal detection logic is coupled with the USB hub. The attach/removal detection logic determines whether a USB device is connected to the at least one USB connector, logically decouples the USB hub from the host if the USB device is not connected to the at least one USB connector and logically couples the USB hub to the host if the USB device is connected to the at least one USB connector.

Method and system for managing power in a system having an internal USB HUB

A cooling apparatus, method and article of manufacture are disclosed which provide for selectively providing power to an attached heat-dissipating apparatus having a cooling probe in thermal contact with a cooling unit, to remove heat generated by a heat-generating source within the computer to an external environment outside of the computer. Power may be conserved, portable battery life extended, higher-speed processors utilized, and overall dimensional characteristics of a personal computer may be slimmed and reduced by utilizing the apparatus with a personal computer. Heat energy is transferred across a thermal connection interface from the heat-generating source of the personal computer to a collection face of the apparatus, and thereafter collected heat energy is dissipated in relation to the available power of the power source and/or the planned operating speed of the processor.

Adaptable heat dissipation device for a personal computer

A method and system for adjusting a temperature of a bottom of a laptop computer housing depending on where the laptop computer is placed during operation. If the laptop computer is placed on a lap of a user, or alternatively on any surface that has direct contact with the bottom of the laptop computer housing, sensors on the bottom of the laptop computer housing are activated. The sensors produce a signal to initiate supplemental cooling measures to reduce the temperature of the bottom of the laptop computer housing. Cooling measures taken include decreasing an operating speed of logic circuits such as a central processing unit (CPU) or increasing cooling fan output.

A personal computer system unit has a planar card upon which is mounted a processor card. The processor has mounted thereon those components, except for system memory, which are most likely to be replaced for a system upgrade. The processor card has a printed circuit board with printed circuits thereon that terminate along one edge at contacts. Two aligned edge connectors are mounted on the planar board. One connector has a key which engages a slot on the edge of the processor card to align the many contacts with contact arms. Two levers are mounted on the card and cooperate with frame elements to insert, extract and latch the processor card. Each element also has a guide to align the processor card for insertion into the edge connectors.

Personal computer processor card interconnect system

A disposable plastic cover for inflatable anti-shock trousers prevents contamination of the trousers in use. The trousers need not be washed or decontaminated between uses. The cover engages the trousers firmly on the inside and provides the same securing means on its outer surfaces for holding tightly around the patient when the trousers are inflated to pressurize the lower body to prevent shock.
