The invention provides a system for enabling the assembly and suspension of a plurality of loudspeakers in a line array where the splay angle between the adjacent speakers can be adjusted and rigidly maintained. The line array system utilizes rigging frames that allow for the coupling and supporting of the loudspeakers through the use of adjustable hinge bars. The rigging frames and adjustable hinge bars together form and rigidly maintain the splay angles between adjacent loudspeakers and correspondingly the curvature of the line array speaker assembly.

Rigging system for line array speakers

A system is provided for suspending a plurality of line array loudspeakers. The suspension system includes a rigging bar having an engaging member, such as a pivotal member, positioned near one end of the rigging bar. The engaging member includes a free end capable of extending outward past the end of the rigging bar in which the engaging member is positioned. The end of the rigging bar opposite the pivotal member is designed to releasably receive an engaging member of an adjacent rigging bar. The free end of the engaging member of the rigging bar may include a hole that aligns with holes positioned in the receiving end of the rigging bar. The engaging member of one rigging bar may then be secured to an adjacent rigging bar by aligning holes of the engaging member of a first rigging bar with the holes in the receiving end of a second rigging bar and inserting a release pin through the aligned holes.

Suspension system

A loudspeaker system consisting of a plurality of direct-radiating electro-acoustical drivers arrayed along a curved line. While in one embodiment the curved line array may be a spiral array, in another embodiment it may be any curved line array (such as an arcuate array). The acoustical drivers are directly coupled to an acoustical waveguide without use of adapters or a throat section. The waveguide and the acoustical drivers may thus be oriented along the curved line so as to produce controlled vertical and horizontal angular coverage with improved phase coherence and reduced distortion. A plurality of phase plugs may be interspersed between the plurality of acoustical drivers to assist in equalizing the sound path to achieve uniform phase at the mouth of the waveguide.

Curved line array loudspeaker

A loudspeaker system consisting of a plurality of direct-radiating electro-acoustical drivers arrayed along a spiral line. The acoustical drivers may be directly coupled to an acoustical waveguide without use of adapters or a throat section. The waveguide and the acoustical drivers may thus be oriented along the spiral line so as to produce controlled vertical and horizontal angular coverage with improved phase coherence and reduced distortion. Spiral line array loudspeaker

A system is disclosed for changing a coverage angle of sound produced from a loudspeaker system. The loudspeaker system includes an enclosure that projects sound at a predetermined angle. A sound integrator includes an inner surface positioned adjacent to a mid-range frequency sound source. An outer surface of the sound integrator includes a planar and a curved surface. The surfaces control the angle which sound radiates from the loudspeaker.

Arbitrary coverage angle sound integrator

This invention provides a radiation boundary integrator ('RBI') for integrating sound radiation from mid-range and high-frequency sources in multi-way loudspeakers. The RBI is a substantially solid boundary that is placed over the mid-range speakers to provide smooth, wave-guiding side walls to control the angular radiation of the high-frequency sound waves emanating from the high-frequency sound sources. To allow the mid-range frequency sound waves generated from mid-range sound sources to pass through the RBI, the RBI is designed with openings. To further prevent the possibility of having high-frequency sound radiate through the openings in the RBI, the RBI may be designed with porous material in the openings of the RBI. The porous material would be transparent to the mid-range sound radiation, but would prevent the high-frequency sound radiation from being disturbed by the openings in the RBI. As such, the RBI provides an outer or front surface area that forms an acoustical barrier to high frequencies radiating across the front surface, yet is acoustically transparent to mid-range frequencies radiating through openings in the RBI. The RBI may also serve as a volume displacement device to compression-load the mid-range sound sources by contouring the back side of the RBI to the shape of the mid-range sound sources thus reducing the space between the RBI and the mid-range sound sources and loading the mid-range sound sources to generate greater mid-range sound energy.
