Systems, methods and computer-program products are provided for aiding in positioning between a surgical object and a machine vision camera in a surgical environment. The machine vision camera senses a position and orientation of a surgical object in its field of view. Controller(s) virtually define a zone within the field of view that indicates a range of acceptable positions for the surgical object relative to a position of the machine vision camera. The controller(s) obtain an acceptable orientation range for the surgical object relative to an orientation of the machine vision camera. The controller(s) execute a GUI to simultaneously present, on the display device, representations of: the field of view; the zone within the field of view; the position of the surgical object relative to the zone; and a current angle difference between the surgical object and the machine vision camera.

System, method and software program for aiding in positioning of objects in a surgical environment

A method includes obtaining a surgical plan comprising a first planned position of an implant and a second planned position of an augment relative to a bone. The augment is planned to provide support between the bone and the implant. The method also includes preparing the bone to receive both the implant in the first planned position and the augment in the second planned position by controlling a robotic device based on the first planned position of the implant and the second planned position of the augment.

A femoral prosthetic component includes a patellar guide portion, a pair of condyles projecting from the guide portion and forming an intercondylar notch therebetween, a bearing surface, and an interface surface configured to face a resected surface of a femur. The interface surface comprises an anterior face and a posterior face, and is substantially contoured between the anterior and posterior face to match a contoured surface of the femur. The substantially contoured interface surface may include at least one planar surface portion to about a flat cut portion in the surface of the femur. This planar surface portion may be a distal flat at a distal face of the interface surface. The contoured interface surface may alternatively include a plurality of planar surface portions. The femoral prosthetic component is configured such that preparation of the bone to match the interface surface results in minimal resection of the distal femur.

Surgical systems, computer-implemented methods, and software programs for generating a milling path for a bone. The implementations involve obtaining a virtual model of the bone, a resection volume defined relative to the virtual model of the bone, and a reference guide defined with respect to the resection volume. Section planes are successively arranged along the reference guide, and each section plane intersects the reference guide and intersects the resection volume. A section path is generated within each section plane and is defined relative to the resection volume. Transition segments are generated to connect section paths of section planes. The milling path is then generated by combining the section paths and the transition segments.

Techniques for patient-specific milling path generation

A method for preoperatively characterizing an individual patients biomechanic function in preparation of implanting a prosthesis is provided. The method includes subjecting a patient to various activities, recording relative positions of anatomy during said various activities, measuring force environments responsive to said patient's anatomy and affected area during said various activities, characterizing the patient's biomechanic function from said relative positions and corresponding force environments, inputting the measured force environments, relative positions of knee anatomy, and patient's biomechanic function characterization into one or more computer simulation models, inputting a computer model of the prosthesis into said one or more computer simulation models, and manipulating the placement of the prosthesis in the computer simulation using said patient's biomechanic function characterization and said computer model of the prosthesis to approximate a preferred biomechanical fit of the prosthesis.

A method includes generating a surgical plan for installation of a structure at a bone and controlling a controllable guide structure to guide a cutting tool to sculpt the bone and the structure based on the surgical plan. Sculpting the bone provides the bone with a bone mating surface and sculpting the structure provides the structure with a structure mating surface. The method also includes installing the structure on the bone by engaging the structure mating surface of the structure with the bone mating surface of the bone.

System and method for preparing bone

A clamp assembly fixes a navigation tracker to a bone. The assembly includes first and second clamp jaws. The second clamp jaw is pivotal about a first fixed pivot. A linear driver includes a shaft. A first linkage is pivotal at one end about a second fixed pivot and coupled at an opposing end to the shaft at a first moving pivot. A second linkage is coupled at one end to the shaft at the first moving pivot and coupled at the other end to the second clamp jaw at a second moving pivot. The linear driver linearly translates the shaft to apply force to the first moving pivot in a first direction to pivot the second clamp jaw towards the first clamp jaw and in a second direction opposite to the first direction to pivot the second clamp jaw away from the first clamp jaw.

A method includes defining a virtual object and defining a first point and a second point associated with a virtual representation of a surgical tool. Movement of the virtual representation of the surgical tool corresponds to movement of the surgical tool in real space. The method includes controlling a robotic device coupled to the surgical tool to constrain the first point to the virtual object, determining that the first point is at a threshold position along the virtual object, and controlling the robotic device to guide the second point to the virtual object.

A joint distraction lever includes a lever body having a handle portion coupled to a working portion, a fulcrum extending from a bottom surface of the working portion of the lever body, a distal tip, which is raised above a top surface of the working portion of the lever body, a force measurement device used to measure a distraction force applied at the distal tip during a distraction procedure for a joint during which a torque is applied at the handle portion of the lever body, and a force value output used to indicate the distraction force applied at the distal tip.

Systems and methods for preparing a proximal tibia

A robotic system for preparing a bone to repair a bone fracture, includes a controllable guide structure configured to guide preparation of at least one bone piece during execution of a surgical plan and a control system configured to define the surgical plan. Defining the surgical plan includes determining a desired relationship between at least a first bone piece and a second bone piece that are separated by the bone fracture and planning preparation of the first bone piece to include a prepared anatomical structure configured to align the first bone piece with the second bone piece such that when aligned, the first bone piece and the second bone piece will achieve the desired relationship. The control system is further configured to control the controllable guide structure according to the surgical plan.

Systems, methods and software are provided for aiding in positioning of objects in a surgical environment. A tracker is rigidly affixed to a surgical object. A camera has a field of view and senses positions of the tracker in the field of view. Controller(s) provide a zone positioned within the field of view at a location that is static relative to the field of view such that the zone is located independent of the sensed positions of the tracker. The zone defines a range of acceptable positions for the tracker relative to a position of the camera. Controller(s) acquire positions of the tracker as the surgical object is moved throughout a range of motion and enable evaluation of the positions of the tracker throughout the range of motion relative to the zone to aid in positioning of one or more of: the camera, the tracker, or the surgical object.
