Disclosed are void-containing polyester shrink films which show excellent density retention upon exposures to high temperatures. The films have high shrinkage and retain their low density after processing under conditions of temperature and moisture used in typical recycling processes. The films are useful for sleeve label and other shrink film applications, and their lower density allows them to be readily separated from soft drink bottles, food containers and the like during recycling operations. Also disclosed is a process for void-containing polyester shrink films having high shrinkage and low density after exposure to elevated temperatures.

Void-containing polyester shrink film with improved density retention

Disclosed is a biaxially-oriented polyester film produced from a polyester comprising: (1) diacid residues comprising between about 95 and about 100 mole percent of terephthalic acid residues; (2) diol residues comprising between about 95 and about 100 mole percent of 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol residues; and (3) about 0.5 to about 5 mole percent of another dicarboxylic acid or diol residue, wherein the polyester comprises a total of 100 mole percent diacid residues and a total of 100 mole percent diol residues. In one embodiment, the biaxially-oriented film has a thickness of 70 to 150 microns (3-5 mils). In another embodiment, the biaxially-oriented film undergoes not more than 3% shrinkage when immersed for 10 seconds in a solder bath preheated to 260&#xb0; C. The film can be made by stretching an essentially amorphous cast film of thickness between about 450-1800 micron (18-70 mil) at a ratio from about 2.5&#xd7;2.5 to 3.5&#xd7;3.5 while being held at a temperature between 90&#xb0; C. and 130&#xb0; C., and heat-setting the stretched film at an actual film temperature of from 260&#xb0; C. to Tm, where Tm is the melting point of the polyester as measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while maintaining the dimensions of the stretched film.

Biaxially oriented copolyester film and laminates thereof

Disclosed are oriented, shaped articles such as, for example, film, fibers, bottles, and tubes, with excellent strength, toughness, clarity, chemical resistance, and UV resistance. The articles can be prepared from cycloaliphatic polyesters and from compositions comprising cycloaliphatic polyesters and cycloaliphatic polyester elastomers. The articles may be oriented by stretching in at least one direction and have a modulus which results in a soft feel. Also disclosed are polyester compositions comprising cycloaliphatic polyesters and polyester elastomers.

Shaped articles from cycloaliphatic polyester compositions

Disclosed are fibers and films prepared from polyesters of a dicarboxylic acid, preferably terephthalic acid, and a diol selected from 1,3-cyclohexanedimethanol, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, or 1,3-propanediol. The fibers and films contain a multifunctional epoxide additive and, optionally, an antioxidant, and show an increased dry heat stability when exposed to elevated temperatures in the presence of air while preserving excellent hydrolytic stability. Also disclosed is a process for stabilizing polyester fibers by melt blending a polyester and epoxide additive and melt spinning. The fibers and films are particularly useful in applications requiring elevated temperatures.

This invention relates to binary blends of cellulose esters and aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters, cellulose esters and aliphatic polyesters as well as ternary blends of cellulose esters and/or aliphatic polyesters and/or aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters and/or polymeric compounds as well as fibers, nonwovens, molded objects, and films prepared therefrom.

The invention relates to binder fibers made from copolyesters, the copolyesters themselves and catalysts and processes for producing the copolyesters. More particularly, the invention relates to copolyesters formed from 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, napthalenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid and esters or anhydrides thereof. Such copolyesters may be formed into a variety of products, especially binder fibers for nonwoven fabrics.
