Materials and optical components formed thereof that are suitable for use in a lighting apparatus to impart a color filtering effect to visible light. At least a portion of such an optical component is formed of a composite material comprising a polymeric matrix material and an inorganic particulate material that contributes a color filtering effect to visible light passing through the composite material, and the particulate material comprises a neodymium compound containing Ndions.

Materials and optical components for color filtering in a lighting apparatus

In an embodiment, the disclosure provides a light source comprising at least one solid state light emitter. The light source, in operation, emits substantially white light having a Lighting Preference Index (LPI) of at least about 105, and this emission from the light source comprises a UV-violet flux of at least about 1%. Use of the lamps, light sources, and methods of the present disclosure may afford the ability to display linens and clothing under energy-efficient LED-based illumination, and may impart an effect to (especially white) clothing, that makes them look cleaner than under illumination by prior art LED lamps.

The specification and drawings present a new light accessory holder, comprising only one part, for placing and interchanging multiple optical accessories in a lighting fixture near/in front of a light sources such as LEDs. The holder can use multiple notched springs (e.g., three) to push accessories forward and holds them in a desired position. The may be removed from the lighting fixture, so the user can load into the holder whatever accessories are needed, and then return the re-loaded holder into the light fixture. Accessories may include but are not limited to diffusers, glass components (optical filers), Hexcel Louvers, snoots, or other objects that are intended to alter the color or shape of a light source.

A multilayer thin film coated reflector is applied to an outer light emitting surface of the lighting fixture. A top layer of the multilayer thin film coated reflector comprises a material including an anatase TiO crystal structure that exhibits antimicrobial properties when activated by the light source.

A directional lamp comprises a light source, a beam forming optical system configured to form light from the light source into a light beam, and a light mixing diffuser arranged to diffuse the light beam. The light source, beam forming optical system, and light mixing diffuser are secured together as a unitary lamp. The beam forming optical system includes: a collecting reflector having an entrance aperture receiving light from the light source and an exit aperture that is larger than the entrance aperture, and a lens disposed at the exit aperture of the collecting reflector, the light source being positioned along an optical axis of the beam forming optical system at a distance from the lens that is within plus or minus ten percent of a focal length of the lens.

An optic assembly includes a light source, a reflector to reflect light emitted by the light source, and an optical lens disposed over and/or around the light source. The optical lens is configured to direct light emitted from the light source using refraction and total internal reflection.

The present disclosure describes embodiments of an optical system for use in a lighting device, e.g., replacements for MR/PAR/R directional lamps. In one embodiment, the optical system comprises optical elements (e.g., a lens element) with features that form light from a light source into a light beam. In one embodiment, the optical elements have a plurality of focus points, which do not all converge to a single focus point proximate the light source. Rather one or more of the focus points are spaced apart from the light source so the collective configuration of focus points causes the light beam to exhibit favorable characteristics.

A light engine comprises a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) devices arranged in a plane and a corresponding plurality of reflector cups wherein each LED device is disposed in a corresponding reflector cup and wherein the light engine does not include either a diffuser or a light mixing cavity. A directional lamp comprises the aforesaid light engine and an imaging lens arranged to generate an image of the light engine at about infinity. The directional lamp may further include a collecting reflector (for example, a conical, parabolic, or compound parabolic reflector) extending between a relatively narrower entrance aperture at which the light engine is disposed and a relatively wider exit aperture at which the imaging lens is disposed. The imaging lens may be arranged to generate a defocused image of the light engine at about infinity to soften the beam edge.

A lighting assembly for illuminating a display case, where the lighting assembly is mounted to a display case and includes a visibility envelop within which an onlooker of the display case cannot see. The lighting assembly includes an elongated frame provisioned to receive modular inserts and at least one modular insert operatively connected to the elongated frame. The at least one modular insert includes a light module, where the light module includes an optical lens and a light source. The optical lens is disposed over and/or around the light source and is disposed exclusively within the visibility envelope. The optical lens is fashioned to control light emitted from the light source using refraction and total internal reflection.
